Ooh, do I smell a change coming?

One anecdote/point of data about handheld lights in real-world environments from an OIS I am analyzing today out of Las Vegas. This is a reason that candela matters.

Officers are searching with handheld lights for a suspect in a shots fired call. They have just found him on the right side, and you can see his arm extended because of the shadow on the wall. But because he's standing in darkness and somewhat backlit, and the officer's handheld light just doesn't have the horses to push enough photons through that and back to him, homie gets about 5 shots off on them before they fire back.

Now, I don't know how many candela would have made for enough to see him and the gun in his hand earlier, but what the officer had wasn't it. Whether sworn or private citizen, this is why I encourage folks to keep a better handheld light on them. More candela, more illumination through real-world photonic barriers like this.

Thankfully he sucked and missed. Took like 19 shots at officers, too, before getting into a barricaded suspect situation.
