I thought about posting this so many times, wrote captions, deleted, tried again, couldn’t face it, repeat. This pandemic had gotten me to a point where my soul and spirit felt like they had been crushed. I’ve felt defeated, alone, depressed, anxious, everything you can think of. I think it’s actually worse now than it was at the beginning, because while everyone is getting back to normal I know I speak for lots of others as well as myself when I say it feels like the world is turning and we’re stuck and being left behind. The feeling of everything you’ve worked for being chipped away at until there’s nothing left and there’s nothing you can do about it is enough to break you. For anyone who’s beaten any mental health issues the fear of it returning is constant, so I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like for people who were struggling before hand. I spent all of last week pretty much lay in bed crying, sleeping from exhaustion from crying, then back to crying again. I’m writing this now because fortunately I was able to take some time away and see my family and friends and build myself back up again. Lockdowns are not only economically harmful, but the mental health impact it has is ruthless. Even on people who have never struggled. Some of you may have even seen the decline in my posting and presence. I’ve barely been able to look at myself in the mirror to even consider doing makeup, let alone get through an entire look without crying it off and then crying more because of how frustrated or exhausted it’s made me. My aim with this post is to show you that no matter what the numbers are against someone’s name, we all fucking struggle. I could absolutely guarantee your favourite people have struggled at some point this year, or are struggling currently. No matter how many makeup selfies, poses, smiles etc you’ve seen from them. So to anyone struggling right now, I feel you. You’re not alone and this one is for you. It’s okay not to be able to function, it’s okay to have a spurt of creativity, it’s okay to want to cry and scream and it’s okay to be anxious about the future. Your feelings are valid. This is my all time fave look to do on myself, soft balanced features. I love using balance when creating makeup looks and it’s something I love teaching to my students who come to learn with me! It was also the kind of look I had to do for my trade test at MAC! Balanced looks can be pretty technical as well, you have to have a keen eye for detail and good knowledge of tones and be observant of facial structure! I could talk about them all day, maybe I’ll do a lil tutorial of how I do mine sometime!
