Growing our family was a struggle I wouldn’t wish on anyone, but after over 3 long years, we finally made it to the other side as parents to the most beautiful baby boy. Nathaniel/Netanel - Gd has given - us the most precious gift, and it’s you, little one. ⁣

Perry is after my grandfather who passed away in March. The day he was admitted into the hospital was the day we found out IVF worked and our baby got his heartbeat right when he died. We have no doubt Zada worked overtime up there as we prayed for our little miracle.⁣

I grabbed onto a nurse to keep myself still, only for the anesthesiologist to hit a nerve on the way in, but I survived and they had me lie down to disperse the medication. But the second I did, baby’s heart rate dropped really low. They immediately turned me on my side to get his heart rate back up, but that meant the epidural never had a chance to evenly distribute, causing terrible pins and needle like numbing on my right side and not enough pain meds on my left. I was forced to stay in that position for hours on end, through every painful contraction, causing my body to ache and my back to start spasming, since every time I moved, baby’s heart rate would drop again. ⁣
⁣
Hours later, my cervix was still not progressing past 2cm, but just as they were ready to discuss a foley bulb to speed up the process, my water broke, taking that option off the table. So now I was stuck in excruciating pain with zero progress, but at least it was time to start pitocin.⁣
⁣
Hours passed. I’m not sure how dilated I was at this point now that I was being pumped with pitocin, but with no warning, I started throwing up over and over again from the pain. It was disgusting, but the nurses helped me change and we went right back to the waiting game.⁣
⁣
The epidural started wearing off and my doctor told me they’d need to take it out and start over. I begged them to just to fix the first one, but they couldn’t and they said I would eventually run out of time to get a new one later. Enter epidural number 2. ⁣
⁣
I started screaming that I had to hold onto someone again, but the nurse with me said she had a bad back so I could only hold her hand. Finally someone else came in to hold me still and I held my breath as the anesthesiologist tried again. ⁣

My Birth Story part 1⁣

I usually avoid reading birth stories because everyone’s experience is unique, but my Gd, this one’s for the books. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong, causing me to go from the most excruciating 37 hours of labor (4 hours pushing!) into an emergency c-section, but I guess let’s start at the beginning. ⁣
⁣
This little guy’s due date was Thanksgiving, so I scheduled a check up for this past Wednesday. At every appointment prior, my doctor was certain I’d be late, so I was shocked when he said my fluid levels were very low, so I would need to head over to the hospital in the next couple hours to get induced. I called my husband, showered, ate a last meal of fettuccine, finished packing, and then we headed out. ⁣
⁣
I had my levels rechecked at the hospital, but was immediately admitted when they saw the results. Once settled into my room, a nurse came in to hook up an IV, Cvd test me, and get started. First step, Cytotec to thin my cervix and get it ready for induction. Each dose takes 4 hours and is known to cause cramping, but ready or not, we began. They also started me on penicillin (to be administered every 4 hours) since I had tested GBS positive.⁣
⁣
The cramping started within the first hour, but it was tolerable and I breathed through the pain until it was time for dose two. Still at only 2cm, the cramping became so extreme, they had to knock me out with stadol. The stadol gave me immediate relief and I fell into a dream state where I thought I was in Alice in Wonderland (causing me to say some funny things lol), but unfortunately, the relief only lasted an hour. ⁣
⁣
When I came to, I was still stuck at 2cm, but my contractions were severe and only 30 seconds apart. Stadol can only be given every four hours, so epidural was put on the table. I was petrified and I’m not sure I know anyone who received an epidural so early into labor, but everyone watching the spiking monitor could see it was necessary. Enter epidural number one. ⁣

One week countdown!!! My doctor does not expect me to be early, but it’s wild thinking about how it could happen any day now. Even crazier to think that this could be our last weekend as a family of two. ⁣

And I say that purposefully because yes, two people can still make a family. ⁣
⁣
Not every couple can have kids or even wants kids or maybe they’re just taking their time, yet there have been so many situations in my life where my husband and I have been treated differently because of our family count. Almost as if we were children ourselves, even if we were the oldest people in the room. Our schedules were also never valued as much as those with children and we were always expected to be everywhere because no kids… no excuses.⁣
⁣
I know many who have had similar experiences, so just figured it was worth mentioning. A family is built with love, not just numbers. ⁣
⁣
P.s. Remind me to use a lint roller next time before I shoot because editing out all the specks was not my favorite midnight activity. ????⁣
