Well, we did it!?
On Saturday I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Anthrozoology and Disability Studies! The past four years have been full of ups and downs, but I am grateful to have spent them learning with wonderful dogs by my side. College would not have been the same without raising @canineorg puppies Memphis, Elijah, Phil, and Zucchini on campus. I met my best friend, co-founded and led the puppy raising club I have dreamed about, participated in some amazing internships, and learned from some professors that I truly look up to. Walking across the graduation stage with puppy #6, Zucchini, by my side was the perfect way to say farewell to my undergrad experience. No other way I would want to end this chapter. #ccizucchini

Yesterday I called the vet office to make an appointment for Zucchini’s next set of vaccines. I gave the receptionist his birthday, breed, color, and then she asked what my puppy’s name was. I told her he is named Zucchini and there was a short pause and then she asked “You mean like... the vegetable?”. I confirmed. She laughed and said, “well, that's a first”. Zucchini may not be a common name, but it's the perfect name for our boy!? Anyone else have a dog with an “odd” name? #ccizucchini

Zucchini had his first bath today! Despite that sad face, he quite enjoyed the pampering. He is so big that his chunky self barely fits into the sink. By next week he may outgrow the bathtub too!? In case you were wondering, after much debate, we decided dog shampoo was the way to go instead of veggie wash. #ccizucchini

“Phil here, checking in from professional training! I’ve spent the last month (can you believe it’s been that long already?!) settling into my new life, bonding with my trainer, and learning so much! I have a super fun roommate named Titan to play with and the campus even has TWO cats for when I am missing my Sesame. Only two weeks until I send home my first professional training report... but for now here are some photos to show just how much fun I am having. Did you notice I have a BLUE vest now? I’m super busy learning to become an assistance dog but I will try to check in again soon!
Lots of licks,
Philly-dog”
I was in class today when @ccicanine shared an update on our Phil. My phone was blowing up a bit so I logged in and wow, let me tell you.... getting to see that precious face after so long without it was quite emotional for me. I was (mostly) able to keep the tears in until class was dismissed. If you need me, you can find me staring at these photos constantly for the next two weeks.?? As always, we are proud of you Phil.

Phil’s report is here!
It has been ten weeks now that Phil has been off working towards fulfilling his life purpose and today's report provides a glimpse into the past four of those weeks. To accompany the report here is a never-before-seen Photo of Phil the day I met him, taken by his sponsor @thedogist. The RPF (resting Phil face) was out in full force, unimpressed with me from day 1.?
Phil is now holding various items, retrieving items off of the floor, pushing closed drawers and push plates, and turning off light switches. His trainer says he has “proven to be extremely engaged throughout field trips in both parks and shops”. He is accepting of physical handling/grooming/cradling, he interacts appropriately with people, seeks direction, is attentive to his handler, and a willing worker. Phil is still playing a bit rough in the yard with his dog friends, but “redirects quickly”. He is having a little bit of FOMO when his turn to work is over and he has to watch his dog friends working with his trainer. This is resulting in some attention-seeking behavior like whining while watching, but he is making progress with reinforcement for his calm behavior. Overall, I am very pleased with Phil’s report! He is progressing nicely through his first semester and continuing to enjoy himself along the way. Now the countdown begins again… 4 weeks until his next report. #cciphil

Hi everyone! Sorry for Zucchini and I going MIA this past week. I have been a bit overwhelmed with all of my commitments since adding Zucchini into the mix. I’m lucky to have SO many projects that I am passionate about right now, but sometimes doing it, capturing it, AND sharing it on social media just doesn’t happen. The reality is puppy raising on top of school, preparing for graduation, an internship, co-leading our puppy club, and running an IG can get tiring.? The good news is it only gets easier from here now that Zucchini sleeps through the night (?) and is able to do more. I'll be catching you up on what we've been up to via IG stories over the next few days. Thank you all for always being so patient and understanding! #ccizucchini

Phil’s first training report has arrived! He has spent the past 6 weeks settling into his new routine in California. Phil is reported to be in good health. He has been working on polishing the 30 commands that he learned during his puppy raising with me along with the retrieve (hold, get) and push commands!
•
He has shown many positive behaviors in training this month. Some of the marked behaviors include being willing, seeking direction, attentive to his handler, walking nicely on leash, allows/accepts physical handling/grooming, interacts appropriately w/ people, and allows/accepts cradling. The two behaviors that were not checked included calm and interacting appropriately with other dogs, so hopefully he will achieve that next month!
•
Phil is also showing a few less desirable behaviors, some that I expected and some that are a surprise. His love for life has at times resulted in being a bit too excited so his “excitable greetings” aren’t too much of a shock but it was a surprise to hear he is being rowdy in the play yard with his dog friends.
•
His trainer included the following note in his report: “Phil has acclimated to his first semester of professional training where, along with polishing floor skills, he has been introduced to “push” and “get”. He is high energy but is able to channel his enthusiasm into productive training sessions. He has begun to mount dogs in community run but has a solid recall which allows his handler to intervene when necessary. Phil has excellent eye contact which causes him to forge while walking. We are practicing maintaining that eye contact while remaining in the correct position during Let’s Go and stationary commands. He is comfortable with all grooming and bathing procedures.” I will admit that I laughed that his eye contact is a little TOO good that he forgets to look where he is! Silly boy. High energy and enthusiastic are great descriptions of Phil. I am happy he is channeling that enthusiasm into training!
•
Overall I am very proud of Phil! I believe in him and hope to see his positive behaviors continue and see improvement in his negative behaviors on his next report. Go earn that blue vest, sweet boy!? #cciphil
