It was around 6PM when we pulled up to our campsite in the Sahara Desert. The sun was setting, so I grabbed my camera and tripod and just started walking. It's funny (in hindsight), in the desert every step takes the energy of several normal steps. Your feet sink in as you trudge through the sand. On this particular evening, I was all by myself. I walked around the desert for a good half hour before I found this particular dune. The light was hitting it just right, so I set my tripod up, got my camera perfectly framed, then had the realization that I had to use a timer on my camera. This meant that I would click my shutter button, then sprint to the top of the dune in order to get into the frame. On top of that, I didn't want a ton of footprints in the sand, so I took the (very) long route to get to the top. I laughed through the pain as I would slip and fall every once in awhile, not to mention the nausea because I haven’t run that much since high school track and field ?. In the end, though, it's almost always worth the photo (and the memories, however daunting they seem at the time).

I’ve been taking photos since I was about 16 (I’m 33 now) and I still get SO excited over finding cool shadows, beautiful light, and unique perspectives. Sometimes I love insane amounts of Photoshop, sometimes just a few little tweaks and I’m satisfied. Sometimes I like the commercial, clean look. Sometimes I like the grainy, old school film look. That’s the beautiful thing about it all, you just ride what excites you and make art you’re proud of, even if nobody else feels the same way. It’s been 15 months since getting on an airplane. When Chels and I booked this trip I was almost as excited to go to the airport as I was to come to Mexico! I flew so much the last few years I actually learned to love the whole experience of it. Now I’m sitting in Tulum with my favorite person and I couldn’t be happier. Travel doesn’t just feel.. nice.. to me. It feels like a piece of my DNA and it refuels my creativity, joy, curiosity, and the list goes on. I feel lucky to have found a person who feels the same way I do ❤️ I believe Chels and I will be traveling until the day we die! We’ve taken about 5,000 photos so far, eaten delicious street tacos, watched sunsets, gone on scooter rides, and talked about all the deep things and even more silly things. It’s impossible to show every step in these short little videos, and most of you would likely be bored to death if I tried! (there’s 43 Photoshop layers and these take many many many hours to complete). But.. here’s a start.
