#alothehippytrippy Day 4. Grasshopper!  I’m calling it #humblegrasshopper????

was planning a completely different post but I came home after teaching a hip opening class and was inspired to play around on my mat. I started trying to do one thing and ended up doing this. I was trying more of a chin stand Grasshopper hybrid but it was too intense so I turned my face to the side floated the bottom leg forward and ended up in this. ????..
.
I guess you can kind of say it’s a semi Squashed Grasshopper 
.
I’ve also included a video of some hip mobility drills that I love to do including active pigeon. Enjoy and please tell me which of these versions you like best?!!! .

A few different Skandasana variations. Such a fun base pose to go off-roading  with. . As always I’d love to hear which one you like best!!?

SLIDE 2 it’s a way to go even deeper into this pose and into the inner groins. Reaching the arms at a diagonal. .
Slide 3. I even tried a floating version which was really tricky.

This posture involves inner groins stretching external hip rotation so goddess pose, squats, yogi squat/malasana are all good warm-ups. Also warrior 2, triangle and extended side angle. .

As much as I dislike the month of January because it’s so cold here I love the winter light that comes in in the afternoon!! Some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken have been in this light where I played with the diagonal shadows on the wall. .

Lizard! I was thinking how in Florida you see lots of lizards on the wall. One of my all-time favorite poses especially as a preparation for backbending because it really opens up hip flexors. 

Going with a couple of ways to work lizard off the floor???? . Then 2 slides showing how I like to work on TOP of my foot. If you work this way and think of dragging yourself forward without moving you create an isometric contraction that can really get into that PSOS.. You can feel it even more if you tuck your chin towards your chest, gently draw your navel in. Finally think of breathing at the bottom lower front of your rib cage and under your armpits into the sides of your body and behind your heart. Because of the connection between the pelvic floor and the diaphragm and therefore the breath, you want to try diaphragmatic breathing while doing these movements as much as possible. 
.
The psoas, when tight, pulls on the pelvic floor muscles. And the fascia (connective tissue) joins the psoas to the diaphragm. This is work that is trying to get a little deeper because releasing this area takes some work!! 

Lastly -video with some tips.

Unconscious tension from stressful situations is stored and can get stuck in our bodies, especially in our hips. Stretching the hip muscles causes a release of those emotions to make them melt away.
