#DidYouKnow that many leaf tips have special water secretion glands called hydathodes? ???????? When a plant has taken on more water than it needs via it’s roots, or when air is so humid that water cannot evacuate via vapor, the plant can push water out through the tips of it’s leaves. Unless disturbed, the drops will often hold on until the environment is drier, and drop back down into the soil and into the roots to be soaked up. This process is called guttation and is just another example of the #GENIUS of plants, and the complex, sustainable world Mother Nature has created ????

One year ago you asked me to marry you - we’d just moved into our new house & had started our family and were planning our wedding already. COVID played with our timing, but there is absolutely nothing I’ve ever been more sure of in my life. @nickkroll forever ♥️♥️♥️

Reimagined the urban landscape with my pals at @Lafayette148NY - fantasizing of a world where their new store on Greene Street in SoHo is overtaken by plant life. We pulled a plant palette rich with anthocyanins — purple majesty millet, Angelwing begonias & deep red pennisetums — whose purple, red & blue-ish pigments have been implicated in tolerance to stressors as diverse as drought to pathogens. This project was meant to be a potent reminder of nature’s powerful healing properties & mysterious inter-connections. Forever thankful to be collaborating with extraordinary women - my @studiolilykwong team & Creative Director @emilysmithlaf148, who all share the vision of a brighter future ahead ???????? portrait by @dxprutting & space by @zepharc #L148GreeneSt #l148xlilykwong

“Scientists used to think the movement of oxygen from the surface of the lilies to the rhizome was merely the slow process of diffusion, an inefficient drift of molecules from a region of high concentration in the air to low concentration under water. But new inquiries revealed a flow we could have known by intuition if we remembered the teachings of plants.
The new leaves take up oxygen into the tightly packed air spaces of their young, developing tissues, whose density creates a pressure gradient. The older leaves, with looser air spaces created by the taters and tears that open the leaf, create a low-pressure region where oxygen can be released into the atmosphere. This gradient exerts a pull on the air taken in by the young leaf. Since they are connected by air-filled capillary networks, the oxygen moves by mass flow from the young leaves to the old, passing through and oxygenativing the rhizome in the process. The young and the old are linked into one long breath, an inhalation that calls for reciprocal exhalations, nourishing the common root from which they both arose. New leaf to old, old to new, mother to daughter -- mutuality endures. I am consoled by the lessons of the lilies” - Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
