Four years ago today we met in person. After three straight months of just texting each other, every night, talking in the dark before we fell asleep. Then texting and talking wasn’t enough. We met in a hotel lobby at the beach, had dinner, went for a walk, watched chess players and neon bicycles zooming by. Also, I totally made out with her. And that meeting, and her heart, and her abiding soul, were what rocketed me back into the sunlight. Even though we’re apart today — I’m in Central New York working on a project, and she’s in Maui with Dirk Strongloin, her aikido instructor, we’ll be back in each other’s arms soon. I’ve been a fan of @neilhimself’s writing — comic and otherwise — since the late 80s. His SANDMAN series was one of those head-swiveling moments in my personal and creative development. In 1992 I stood in line for four hours (@blainecapatch can corroborate) at Comix Experience in SF to get my hardback SEASON OF MISTS trade signed by the man himself. Getting to write the intro for the 30th anniversary edition was nerd zenith. But now, getting to voice Matthew the Raven in the @netflix adaptation? And I’m in a cast that includes David Thewis and Stephen motherfucking FRY? This has rocketed me past the zenith into a heaven-realm of geekiness. I am beyond lucky to get to do this, and beyond flattered that one of my personal heroes just wrote what he wrote about me. See ya soon, Boss! *squawk*
