Story time! I gave up about 6 times making this illustration. I really struggle with Imposter Syndrome. I think I give up too easily at times when things aren’t going the way I imagined them to. This stems from just insecurities and fear of being a failure. I can be too controlling at times.

I haven’t created artwork for myself in 3 years! A lot of that was due to lack of confidence and being in a toxic environment. One of the best lessons I’ve learned recently is you have to surround yourself with like minded people who genuinely want to see your grow and succeed; your tribe. Energies are contagious. I just wanted to remind my peers that’s we are all allowed to feel. What!/ going on right now is nothing new, but still very painful. Don’t suppress your feelings in order to “stay strong.” If you need to cry, cry. If you need to scream, scream. If you just need to smile, do just that. There’s nothing wrong with feeling. You need to find a healthy way of realizing. .
So today I encourage you to go for a walk, journal, mediate, pray, cry, laugh and find a bit of joy today. Take an hour to yourself just to feel. ? #PreciousLord

Throughout college, I was constantly picked on and teased for making my projects “too pro-black.” My mission has always been to highlight black stories, and to accurately represent us in any way, shape, or form that I possibly can.
