Getting ready to head out for my girls birthday @jhaley555 ?
We met because of a cute baby pig named Lulu, ended up being a wild boar ????? HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESS, LOVE U ?

And since I dressed up with cuter yoga clothes, I decided to try this weeks #ysydcrew it looked so pretty!

I had to bail out of hosting YOGI SEE YOGI DO, I just couldn’t commit every Saturday. But the girls are all so lovely!

Better late than never?
Again, I’m so sorry for this round! I love to be involved and engaged while hosting. But life happens and it’s not always as expected. Our son is ok now and recovering, that’s about all I will share. Only our close friends and family know what happened. And I appreciate all the prayers, gifts, and love you have all sent his way! ??????

Tomorrow is day 5 of
#ResolutionHandstand2021 we are playing with the craziest compression handstand! I love tuck because there are so many ways to practice it. Using the wall, using a ball, using a wheel or pressing up or down slowly. 

Day 5
SHAPE: TUCK
Feet and legs engaged, toes pointed or flexed will make that happen. Squeeze inner thighs and tuck knees as tight as your body will let you. Pulling in you core and think of keeping hips over shoulders and wrist as long as you can. Knit your ribs to tighten the core strength. Engage your lats! 
Rotate shoulders, biceps outward, arms straight, push into palms and think of pushing into the earth hard! And breathe!! ⠀

DRILL: TUCK SLIDERS
You can use the wall to slide into your tuck, a ball, a wheel or even just socks and slippery surface. Focusing on compressing your thighs and knees to your chest, this is the same movement and the same muscles you engage while your in a tuck handstand. 

Practice this drill 20-30 Reps 3Xs.

Tomorrow is day 4 of
#ResolutionHandstand2021 

Day 4
SHAPE: STRADDLE
Feet and legs engaged, toes pointed or flexed will make that happen. Relax inner thighs allowing the legs to drop to each side.
It's important to keep your HIPS OVER SHOULDERS. Rotate shoulders, biceps outward, arms straight, push into palms and think of pushing into the earth hard.

DRILL: STRADDLE PANCAKES
This is a great drill to warm up in preparation for straddle. Tips to successfully benefit from this drill; keep back straight, try to keep arms in line with shoulders (this activates your back muscles), flex feet and keep hip flexors fired up to use compression strength.
Practice this drill 10 Reps 3Xs.

Tomorrow is day 3 of
#ResolutionHandstand2021 

Day 3
SHAPE: STAG

Think of squeezing inner thighs, they may not be touching but the feeling of engaging those inner thighs will help your legs stay in control. 
Keep your feet engaged, toes pointed or flexed will make that happen. I like to think of pulling my knee into chest and back foot down towards the ground.... The engagement of pulling both directions is the key to finding perfect balance in a stag shaped handstand!
If your bendy try to think of keeping that core engaged and knitting ribs together.
Pushing through shoulders by thinking of pushing into the earth.
Rotate shoulders and biceps outward.
Pushing into your palms will help with keeping those arms straight and shoulders rotated.
If balance is challenging here, use your finger tips or spidy fingers to keep you from falling backwards.

DRILL: GODDESS LUNGES
This is a great drill to warm up in preparation for stag legs. Tips to successfully benefit from this drill; keep pelvis tucked, keep core engaged and focus on squeezing thighs together even though they are not.
Practice this drill 10 Reps 3Xs.

Tomorrow is day 2 of
#ResolutionHandstand2021 and as per usual, it’s a hit! I mean who doesn’t love to invert! 

Day 2:
SHAPE: Y
You can play with a little counter balance here, but you will want to keep your legs closer together than you think or it will become a split handstand. 
Keep your feet and quads engaged, toes pointed or flexed with make that happen. 
Pull in core and knit ribs together.
Push through shoulders, think of pushing into the earth.
Rotate shoulders and biceps outward.
Push into your palms will help with keeping those arms straight and shoulders rotated.
If balance is challenging here, use your finger tips or spidy fingers to keep you from falling backwards (trust me they help a lot)!

DRILL: KNEELING PIKE UPS
This is such a great drill, not only does this build compression and lay strength but it stretches out your hamstrings and warms up your wrists!
PUSH INTO THE EARTH AS HARD AS YOU CAN, ENGAGE LATS AND PULL UP THROUGH CORE TO PUSH YOURSELF UP.
KEEP YOUR UPPER BODY COMPRESSED WITH YOUR LOWER BODY WHILE PUSHING UP.
Practice this drill 10 Reps 3Xs.

#ResolutionHandstand2021 starts tomorrow!

I had a bit of a reminiscent moment while preparing this post, last year this time across the globe we all had our worlds rattled as covid started to take over the world. Lots of unknowns and this challenge was a saving grace for so many of us that were stuck at home for our practice. Yoga grounds us, keeps us healthy and happy. Any who ?

Day 1:
SHAPE: STRAIGHT UP
Keep your feet engaged, toes pointed or flexed with make that happen. I like to think of trying to touch the sky with my toes.
Inner thighs engaged, think of squeezing them together!
Pull in core and knit ribs together.
Push through shoulders, think of pushing into the earth.
Rotate shoulders and biceps outward.
Push into your palms will help with keeping those arms straight and shoulders rotated.
If balance is challenging here, use your finger tips or spidy fingers to keep you from falling backwards (trust me they help a lot)!

DRILL: DEAD BUG TVA DRILLS
THE KEY TO A STRONG HANDSTAND IS A STRONG TVA!
This drill teaches you how to activate your TVA by keeping your lower back on the ground. Lower your arms and legs as low as you can until you feel your back starting to arch, this is when your TVA is no longer engaged. 
Practice this drill 20 Reps 3Xs.

#ResolutionHandstand2021 starts again on April 1st! Join us for the second round this year! ALL LEVELS WELCOME!

Our goal is to simply practice...real practice, not perfection. We will give you a drill to work on each day as well as a fun leg shape. Simply practice what you can and share whatever you’d like. ⠀
.
Walls and other props are very welcomed and encouraged. In fact you can play along with us in any inversion you’d like...headstand, forearm stand, it’s all good!
.
No matter where you are in your handstand journey, we’ve got you covered. We hosts are each at different levels in our journey and we will be sharing practice ideas for everyone. We are here to help YOU stay motivated to practice your handstands a little bit every day. CONSISTENCY is the KEY to progress!

Simply commit to practicing with us for these 8 days. If you’re inspired to keep practicing, do so! We will host another round every three months during 2021 to help keep you motivated and inspired. It’s also really fun to track your progress each round!
