Back when I started my fitness journey, I would have NEVER thought mental health would be as intertwined with fitness as much as it is. It plays into how you view your body, the way you eat, the way you feel about other people’s bodies, body dysmorphic tendencies, constantly pointing out all your flaws etc. etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m glad more and more people are bringing awareness to this discussion and I’m hoping it can lead to a more body positive (or at least a more body neutral) environment.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m so flattered and honored to be one of the panel speakers this Sunday at the #GymsharkxWhitneySimmons event ? where we will be discussing all things mental health, fitness and body positivity. A huge thank you to @whitneyysimmons for inviting me, can’t wait! ???

Understanding Natural Set Weight (aka Homeostatic Regulation of Body Fat Mass) ⚖️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You might’ve noticed my body changing a lot over the past 2 years and I commonly throw around the phrase “set weight” and “set point” so I want to give a deeper understanding as to what that means. My weight changed so much because when I truly listened to my hunger, my body needed time to adapt and find its genetically predetermined fat mass or set weight. This is more of a range, as it will fluctuate throughout my life. It also differs from person to person based on each person’s unique genetics and environment. ??
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I tried to explain it to the best of my ability on these slides ➡️ but I also have an entire video on it on my YouTube channel called “The Science Behind My All In Journey” if you want a deeper dive ?

10 years of trying to figure out health and fitness…AKA a very truncated version of my fitness journey.
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting lately because I’ve been getting questions that make me wonder if people forget how old I am and how long it’s taken me to even begin “figuring things out” when it comes to my health… it’s been MANY years of trial and error ? (mostly error). So I figured I would show a very brief history of the last 10 years (I’m 31 if you didn’t know ?).
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
? 2011: Consistently weight training for ~1 year. I knew virtually nothing about dieting and nutrition.
? 2014: Weight training for ~3 years. Left: Starting point at the beginning of my first and only bikini prep. Right: Week of my bikini show.
? 2015: Holding onto some bizarre notion I needed to stay lean even though I was no longer competing. Diet was basically protein, rice, and veggies.
? 2016: Discovered flexible dieting. BUT was still lean and experiencing insatiable hunger from my previous bikini prep diet.
? 2017: Started my YouTube channel and felt pressured to look “good” so I kept my flexible dieting macros pretty low. (Funny how I didn’t think it was low at the time).
? 2018: Still haunted by my extreme hunger and decided to try a lean bulk to see if it would help. But I shortly gave up on bulking because I was starting to feel “fat” (ridiculous I know) and decided to do the complete opposite and ran a mini cut ??‍♀️
? Beginning of 2019: Ended my mini cut as shredded as I was when I competed. Miserable, tired and HUNGRY! All for what? Credibility? Notoriety? My ego? I’m not even sure ?
? Late 2019: All In and fixing my extreme hunger. Eating to complete satiety everyday.
? 2020: Hunger and satiety cues restored. Feeling healthy and happy but still working on listening to my body and intuitive eating.
? 2021: Strong, still happy and eating intuitively without restriction. Still a work in progress but getting there (wherever “there” is ??…self actualization? I dunno but I’m working on it)
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s been a long journey but hopefully I’ll continue to learn and grow. Nothing happens overnight…or a decade for that matter. Damn I’m old ?

It’s been a long journey but hopefully I’ll continue to learn and grow. Nothing happens overnight…or a decade for that matter. Damn I’m old ?
10 years of trying to figure out health and fitness…AKA a very truncated version of my fitness journey.
