Happy #Valentines ? Today is super special as it also marks 13 years since I landed in Australia. I remember sitting on that delayed plane at JFK in New York thinking to myself, “WTF am I doing? We just met! Am I really gonna move to the other side of the world for this guy!? Is this another painful heartbreak in the making?” As it turns out, it’s worth giving love a chance no matter how far it may take us. It’s been a while since we posted a “yoga” pic? My 40th is coming up in a few days and I’ve decided to spend it at a vipassana retreat to reset and reflect on the last four decades. I know, perhaps not the most exciting way to celebrate, but I’m craving a bit of stillness and silence after such an insane year. Having done a few of these retreats, it’s become a way to check in with myself and a timely reminder that I am still here, how lucky. On the level of mind, vipassana offers an insight into what’s going on inside that noggin, what’s worth holding onto and what needs to go. On the level of heart, well, one gets to work through all kinds of subconscious s**t that bubbles up onto the surface when you’re left alone in silence for 10 days.

I don’t know about you, but this past year has made me question everything and having a second baby has been a game changer. Parenthood feels like Nature’s wake up call to a deep sense of purpose. Like most, I’ve spent a big part of my life chasing happiness by mistakingly thinking that success = happiness. The other big fallacy I’m still trying to wean myself off is the notion that career = purpose. Hand up if you can relate? As I get older, I’m finally beginning to understand that the mystery of life is much simpler and sweeter than whatever our conditioned mind would have us believe. As one of my teachers used to say, “Honzaji, when in doubt, just breathe, it’s that simple.” Part of my intention for spending the next ten days in meditation is to remember just that. Making #simplicity my new year’s resolution seems like a good place to start as I contemplate this next chapter of life as a family of four.

Anyway, that’s enough journaling for today, thank you for tuning in. And BIG thank you to my beautiful wifey for letting me do this... ahhh miss my girls already. See you on the other side!??

Kicking off the new year with a virtual wedding and an exciting dress up after months of wearing pretty much just jammies. We’re so thrilled for my brother Stephan & his partner Kamillah who tied the knot in this new era of social distancing and virtual events. Their private ceremony was in New York with hundreds of friends and family zooming in from all around the world. To quote another one of the greats Bob Dylan, “The times they are a changing.” Huge congrats to the newly weds from all of us here Down Under! May you be happy and healthy together and always remember what grand-père used to say, “Never go to bed angry with each other.” Mazel Tov!?‍❤️‍???
