When in Belgium, surely it would be rude to have anything other than waffles for breakfast? This deliciously cratered creation was the perfect start to the day at the newly opened @julianahotelbrussels . Being a brand new hotel, they were still working on all the little things when I stayed - I was rather surprised when I was informed they couldn’t offer room service breakfast at 10:30am as breakfast in the restaurant ended at 10am and the kitchen was closed until lunch. I stated that I found that pretty odd, as missing breakfast cut off was probably one of the most common reasons to order in-room. Five minutes later, I received a call saying not to worry, the waffle would be on its way ASAP, much to the relief of my nauseous pregnancy stomach! I noticed this great attitude of looking for solutions and figuring out how they can make things work for the guest time and time again at the Juliana - something that will surely stand them in great stead as one of Europe’s best luxury boutique properties. Plant-based meat. What are your thoughts? Do you buy it? Eat it? Serve it? ⠀
⠀
I feel like Dubai loves to be a little LA, and in that vein, the town has jumped on the meatfree ‘meat’ trend with unbridled enthusiasm. In fact, three plant-based meat brands have launched here in the past month or so and while I’m not vegetarian or vegan, I’m always curious as to how they measure up, for research’s sake. ⠀
⠀
I was invited to try out some creations using a new Korean plant-based product, @unlimeatofficial, and one of their products in particular stood out - the thinly sliced ‘meat’ used in this bulgogi dish. Honestly, it was indistinguishable from beef in this dish! Wtf!?! I’m both perplexed and impressed ????????. ⠀
⠀
As the demand for meatless ‘meat’ increases, I think this product has a lot of potential in the market - it’s ideal for stir fry dishes, tacos and boy, it would make for a mean Philly ‘cheesesteak’ sub. They also make other products such as a minced patty style creation, but personally I think there are better options in that category. For dishes that use this thin sliced ‘beef’ style cut though? Game changer.⠀
⠀

⠀
FYI, this is a paid collab, and as per usual, you’re gonna get our honest opinion regardless of invite, paid, or not! ☺️???????? We’ll continue to keep the same energy for all of our posts, and you can continue to trust what we say about a product. People seem to make such a fuss about invites or paid lately, but for us, that doesn’t sway our endorsement - we’re always gonna let you know our opinion, regardless! And that’s how we think it should always be. ???? #keepthesameenergy

We have a lot to say when it comes to just how much we loved this boutique property and all the special touches that set it apart from some mediocre luxury chain experiences we have had lately. I love corn, and I love Michelin stars…put the two together and you have this stunner of a dish from New York’s fabulous @mareanyc. As the name might suggest, the menu is predominately seafood (much, much more so than its Dubai counterpart) but nevertheless, the team were amazing at finding ways to accommodate this seafood-allergic foodie! This is the Chilled corn soup with sun gold tomatoes and crispy focaccia (31 USD) which is usually served with a shrimp tartare. Shrimp or no shrimp, this dish is utterly divine!! I would describe Marea NYC as casually elegant with service that is truly stand out. More on Marea NYC soon!

I’m on a quest to discover Dubai’s best croissant delivery on @talabatuae and I want to know which boutique (or not so boutique) bakery floats your boat. We’re looking for the perfect flakiness, spot on butter content and the all important toasty flavour that makes this classic more than the sum of its parts. (Pictured is a selection we ordered from @thehamptonsdubai - we prefer their plain, but if you have a SUPER sweet tooth, try their iced). We think there’s a benchmark to beat in Dubai - which we haven’t posted yet - but we’d love to know your thoughts on which curvy creation reigns supreme! ????????????

My favourite dish at @timeoutmarketdubai - @reifkushiyaki’s Truffle Udon (120dhs). Is it cheap? No. Is it freaking delicious? Hell yeah! It’s so decadently rich, I suggest you share it with a friend…a really good one…then afterwards regret it and wish you’d kept it all to yourself but secretly be relieved you only consumed half of the (no doubt rather measurable) calories contained within this glorious dish. Hey, you only live once, right? I say do it. I highly doubt you’ll have any regrets. ????????????

I don’t know what’s wrong with me, but lately I’ve been leaning more towards beef burgers than chicken sandwiches, something very unlike me - but it may have to do with the stonking quality of beef burgers Dubai is serving up lately, such as this BBQ bacon cheeseburger from @houseofslaw! I mean, look at the size of those onions ????! You can order this beast on @talabatuae if, like me, you’re just too tired to leave the house…is delivery everything the best thing about Dubai or what? I always miss the convenience when I travel. This will be on the menu as soon as I’m back! ????????

The New York fine dining scene has a new hotspot - and that is @saga_nyc, located on the 63rd floor of 70 Pine St in the Financial District. Open just 22 days when we visited a couple of weeks ago, SAGA is the latest venture from industry power duo @chefjameskent and @jkatz411, formerly of NYC’s @thenomadhotel and @delposto respectively. (You’ll find their first venture together, @crownshynyc, downstairs in the same skyscraper). The communal tagine course, shown here, pays tribute to chef @chefjameskent’s Moroccan heritage, and is quite the show stopper. On the night we dined our table could choose from either duck or wagyu deckle, and much to @xiaoda_lin’s disappointment, @crystylmo and I sided with the latter. I have to say it was a sterling decision, however - the ridiculously tender beef was nothing short of glorious. The dish came served with flat bread, radicchio and assorted hummus and yoghurt dips - the sharing style serving part of their mission to break and reassemble fine dining ‘norms’ to their personal style for the restaurant. One to watch.
