I’m back in Cape Breton for @littlelorrainefilm There’s a special feeling to be from Nova Scotia. A kind of salt that stays with you—in your bones, in your stories. My debut feature is set in Cape Breton, inspired by Lighthouse in Little Lorraine—a song written by my friend Adam Baldwin. It’s not a story from my childhood, but it could’ve been. It feels like a tale born of lies and half truths and the good stuff in between. The kind passed around in glances, soaked in cold Atlantic fog, wrapped in more questions than answers. This film marks the beginning of a genre we have been referring to as “Easterns.” Stories born of the East Coast—morally grey, salt-scoured, and quiet until they aren’t. The kind of tales that don’t scream, but linger. Spielberg once said he’d never make another film on water after Jaws. I get it. But I’ll never stop. Because nothing else moves like it. Nothing else breathes like it. You can fake a lot on a soundstage—but not tide, not the fog, not the fear of going overboard in open water. @littlelorrainefilm is for the world, but it was born for the East coast. This one’s for my home, you are forever in my bones. ???? @jpowers

I always love working with @anheuserbusch brands like @estrellajalisco we had a great time shooting in Mexico with them. This was a concept that Kai and I had for a really great oner that captured the brand perfectly on an ultra wide lens with some N.W.A. album cover vibes. Thanks to everyone involved on all sides! I’m so blessed and honoured to be celebrating National Canadian Film Day with my first completely Canadian feature film under my belt, I can’t wait for you all to see it. It takes so much to take a film from page to camera, to audience. As a Canadian filmmaker I am so blessed to be from a country that supports the arts at the level in which they do nationally, and again at the provincial level. #NationalCanadianFilmDay
