Happy 2nd Birthday to my Colette
-
If you’ve met Coco or seen her in my videos. You know she’s one to light up any room she enters. She loves to eat just like her daddy. And keep the party going just like her mommy. She can speak in 3 different languages. Because of her, I know the lyrics to all the Disney Princess songs.
-
We had to cancel her birthday party last year due to the pandemic shutdown. But throughout the past year, we were able to watch her grow. And not miss out on her milestones. A true blessing in disguise.
-
My girl is growing up way too quick ?

My last public speaking event. One year ago. It happened to be at my alma mater.
-
La Quinta High School. Coming back here I was reminded of a time that had a tremendous impact on my life. During one of the assembly’s I had as a student attending here. We had a Hispanic speaker share his story.
-
I don’t remember his name or what he actually did. But I remember him sharing his story of going to prison, coming out of it, and turning his life around. With the odds stacked against him, he became successful by doing things right.
-
Fast forward 20 years later. There I was, standing on the same floor. And now sharing my stories to the next generation. These students sitting in those same bleachers that I sat in. Figuring out what happens next in their lives.
-
My intention of coming back is to give them hope of what’s possible. That life can lead you in so many ways that you would’ve never imagined. And that I was once the same kid trying to figure out just like they are now. My 3 years there brought me so much pain and joy. But it’s those moments that shaped me into who I became.
-
Shout out to my high school for welcoming me back to speak. Amazing to still see some of my old teachers still hold it down. I’m a La Quinta Aztec for life.

Honored to be mentioned in the Top 50 “Unsung Heroes” list by @AsianHustleNetwork. And to be on it alongside those I’ve become friends with on this platform.
-
@CalvinDHang put me on to this group over a year ago. @BryanVuongPham & @Magg.Chui started this group to provide voices in the Asian community. Bringing people together from around the world. I’ve seen people form ideas and partnerships through AHN. It’s amazing to see everyone collaborate and open to helping one another.
-
I spoke at the AHN event just a year ago. Thought maybe 20-30 ppl would show up. But no, the Asian community came out in full force with over 500 attendees; driving and flying out to Rancho Cucamonga. Blown away by everyone’s enthusiasm to see our community make moves.
-
We don’t put in the work to be placed on top lists. We do this because we want those in our community to make a difference. Lets inspire the next generation of dreamers to lead the way. Shout out to the #AsianHustleNetwork, @CliqueNowManagement, & @NeedThatCom. You already know a lot of us in this network at collaborating on HUGE projects together!

Today we celebrate Mamba Mentality.

Remembering the moments Kobe taught us about passion, how to be relentless, the pursuit going after our goals, doing it time and time again, how to redefine ourselves, and the way to love our children.

To all the lives that were lost that day. Our hearts are still with you and your families. ??

5 years ago. We launched a concept called #Ujelly. This was a few days after the #NudoNudo fiasco of the car running into the store.
-
My mental state was all over the place at that time. U Jelly was one of the earlier projects we worked on. I just went along with what the “team” wanted to do. This process split up a lot of “friends,” and people were left out. At the time, I should’ve stepped up and said something. A dope idea doesn’t work with dumb execution.
-
#Ujelly was supposed to be a concept of innovating the donut. Developing savory style donuts. Along with worldly breakfast burritos. But what came to be was none of that.
-
From day one, I had a gut feeling that this was a bad deal. Worked on a concept that didn’t have the right tools and team. Nobody was on the same page. And cost us a ton of time & money. And the chef we tried to hire on walked on us because we weren’t clear on the direction. It was a disaster.
-
Our menu ended up just being instagram friendly looking donuts, no coffee, no burritos, and we opened at noon? What kind of donut shop opens up in the afternoon??
-
It started off strong with lines around the building, but the reviews were horrible. And our product got worse and worse. Our team then decided to add poke on the menu. Poke in a donut shop? You gotta be kidding me. I wanted out.
-
Thankfully my childhood friends decided to step in. And if we going to be forced into this saturated Poke market. Then we’ll do it our way. We started #ProjectPoke. And really turned things around. It started doing extremely well as we kept innovating the menu with a strong operating team. But we never had the intention of growing that brand. We were just trying to keep the store alive. We decided to sell our profitable business to work on other opportunities.
-
U Jelly & Project Poke taught me to listen to my gut feeling. To speak up when things don’t feel right. To not leave those behind who look out for you, no matter how shiny that penny looks. That even at its worst, you can turn things around; if everyone’s on the same page. To this day I’m still learning and adjusting. It’s never easy, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

WE MADE IT THROUGH 2020!
-
Not without a bunch of bumps and bruises. This year we lost our childhood heroes. We learned how to pivot for survival. We saw shortages of toilet paper and bikes. Our new heroes were first responders. Michael Jordan became a superstar again to a new generation.
-
Mentally I’ve been all over the place. I caught covid-19 from who knows where. I was able to witness my daughter take her first steps. I lost friends who I thought were down for me. But I gained new friends that I connected with digitally. Some of my businesses shuttered, while others launched or expanded. I was forced to slow down, but that pushed me to be more organized and creative.
-
I know New Year’s Day won’t change the current state of the pandemic. And our old way of living is long gone. But that leads us to make the changes in ourselves. And for myself, I’m going continue to do what I do every year. Go out there, follow my gut, and give life my best.
-
So I’m opening up this upcoming year to create opportunities for new talent, hiring an assistant, content creators, acquiring potential projects, and dip my hands into something “new!”
-
To 2021. Let’s plan for the best and if all goes to sh*t. We’ll figure it out like as always do.
