•NOW IN ENGLISH• I recently wrote an article about our first ever bikepacking trip, which happened in Northern Spain when the borders still limited how far we could go on an adventure. After actively trying to avoid cycling in my home country, we finally gave it a go and I learned a big lesson from the experience. You can read about it in @pedalia.cc (to practice your Spanish) and you can also access the downloadable gpx tracks through my profile in @komoot.

Division of tasks. Whilst Tristan warms up the kitchen, it’s my task to prep our tent and make it feel homey. I enjoy this ritual very much since, within all the unpredictability of travel, this little routine allows me to calm down and mentally prepare for another day ahead full of new, unknown experiences. It goes as follows: tent, mats, sleeping bags, pillows, bags, clean up, pijamas, and pop my head out of the tent to follow the progress on dinner! Thanks, @tristanbogaard for always cooking!

It’s a new year! I don’t know about you, but the past couple weeks have been for me a lot about family and food. In Spain, festive meals extend through the day since you gather for lunch but find yourself still eating until dinner time as you sit for 6 hours around the table, chatting and laughing with your loved ones. It’s nice to be able to do this once a year when everyone is back home. So…many calories and routine disasters later… I’m ready to hop on the bike and move my body! Waiting first a few more days to reunite again with @tristanbogaard!

•Español en los comentarios• Looking back into another year makes me feel a little nostalgic. I generally feel like time has flown by, which is why stopping to actually think what has gone on in the past 12 months is a good exercise to realize that actually, loads has happened! Like this, time falls back into place.

Globally, I feel like the word ‘vaccine’ claims the prize. And personally, I’d choose ‘progress’ since 2020’s slap of reality has brought me a new perspective and finally, also reassurance on the steps to take moving forward.

But hey! I hope that overall, this has also been a ‘moving forward’ year for you too! In my case, I don’t recall many dips but do remember plenty of highlights. I’m sharing with you some of my monthly favorites below (and in the images).

Wishing you all a lovely end of the year and of course… Cheers to more adventures to come!

FEBRUARY: Went for my first ever bike ride on the snow!
MARCH: Got a sunny dutch day for my birthday. =)

MAY: Organized a cool giveaway for the launch of @50waystocycletheworld JUNE: Scouted a new bike route in Switzerland on e-mtbikes

Last sprint! To me, there’s something very thrilling about entering a new year. It feels like a *placebo* fresh start and it makes me feel excited for what’s coming ahead—even though I have no idea what that will be exactly! I’m super ready for another year of unknownness and exciting projects. So this is me, speeding up on the last meters of the track, ready to hit the end line of 2021 and move up a level! Hope you enjoy these last days of the year too! - Shot by @tristanbogaard •ESPAÑOL• ¡Último sprint!

These last days I’ve been reflecting a lot on myself. Where am I now in my life, personally and professionally, what I’ve achieved, what I’m looking for, etc… At this point, I’ve spent the same amount of time working as an architect as I have working as a freelance adventure cyclist. My heart has been divided between these two modalities ever since, but I’m certain that both will be able to marry in some way, some day. By this point, I’m very happy that I had the courage to pursue this uncertain career along with @tristanbogaard. It’s mentally draining, mostly because of the uncertainty it entails, but at the same time it’s very rewarding in so many other ways. As we move forward, we will continue to meticulously choose who we decide to work with. Brands like @komoot, @ortlieb_waterproof, @specialized_nlbe , @olympusnederland or @chapka_es have been supporting us through this year and for 2022, we’ll be sharing some new names. It’s thanks to them and to you, that Tristan and I get to pursue this exciting adventure. So thank you, all of you, for sticking around and supporting our work. Our passion is still the same: continue riding whilst inspiring more of you to get out and give it a go. It truly is a fantastic way to explore the world and learn from a very different perspective.

Sending my love,
Belén

Cycling the TranSardinia with Sam & Bec was definitely one of the highlights of our summer. We didn’t know each other in person before embarking on this adventure together, but had a feeling we’d all connect very well over the bike. Watch ‘(not) Cycling the TranSardinia’, a new video telling the story through my perspective! Link in bio or find me as ‘belletoscan’ on YouTube. =)

Weeeeeee! I just love descending. Especially when it feels like a reward after a tough, long climb. I enjoy the concentration and flow of mind you enter that allow you to avoid obstacles without overthinking too much. It’s almost like a reflex. Kinda scary and thrilling at the same time. - Shot by @tristanbogaard on Olympus OMD EM5 III
