Not a bad day for a hike ????️#MadeWithKodak 4x5 Kodak Portra400 @kodakprofessional @kodak @negative.supply @yosemiteonfilm Now that Yosemite Falls is practically a trickle, I thought it was time to share an image I made earlier this year. If I remember correctly, I used a pretty wide open aperture (f/11-f/16) in order to use a shutter speed that would freeze the water. I believe this translates close to f/4-5.6 on 35. I had no idea how that would effect the background but the dramatic flow of water was important to capture. A few months back I spent the night just outside the park gates along Tioga Pass. The forecast called for potential snow overnight which meant I was in for an adventure. I woke up every 30 min to an hour partially because of the cold but also my insomnia. Eventually, my alarm for sunrise went off and I made my way into Yosemite National Park. As I was driving past Tuolumne Meadows, I started noticing this very warm glow over my shoulder while the rest of the sky remained dark. I approached Tenaya Lake and knew I had to pull over ASAP or else I may miss the light. I parked my car, grabbed my camera bag, and did my best Olympic 100M dash impression sprinting towards the shore of the lake. Too bad nobody else was there because I probably looked like an absolute madman running around. ???? I came across this log and set up the 4x5 as fast as possible. I barely could see the bottom half of the ground glass because it was still pretty dark. Rain started coming down as I loaded my film holder. I did my best to shield the lens and exposed my film. The light faded a few minutes later as clouds covered the sky. Soft morning light at the Grand Canyon ????️ #MadeWithKodak After sitting around the past 5 months due to back surgery it sure feels good to be out photographing again. Exploring our beautiful public lands has always been something I’ve found incredibly rewarding both physically and mentally.
