March is my least favorite month... It’s long and cold, and makes me long for spring to finally start. But it also has some really, really good books! Here are three of my March standouts so far: INFINITE COUNTRY (on sale now), HOW BEAUTIFUL WE WERE (coming March 9), and LIBERTIE (coming March 30). With mesmerizing, compassionate, haunting storytelling, these three novels immediately drew me in and wouldn’t let me go until I’d finished reading hours or days later. I highly recommend spending your month curled up with all three! What are you reading this month?

You have to read this book if you like Downton Abbey and the Great British Baking Show! I’m not a huge historical fiction reader, but I absolutely loved THE KITCHEN FRONT. I instantly fell for the four women at the hear of this novel—each so different but so compelling that I had a hard time deciding who I wanted to win the cooking contest (though I think Aubrey and Nell were always in the lead as my favorites). Their strength, ingenuity, and determination endeared them all to me. Reading this book felt like sitting at their kitchen tables, watching them scrap together beautiful meals and hearing about their life stories. It was such a cozy, fun reading experience despite the harsh realities often World War II time period.

MILK BLOOD HEAT is the best short story collection I’ve read in ages! It’s visceral, sharp, graceful, and haunting. Normally with story collections, I’ll read one or two a night over the course of a few weeks. But I devoured this incredible collection in one sitting. Each story was arresting and wouldn’t let me go. Confronting themes of connection, race, womanhood, and the darkness inside us, all of these stories center around moments of personal reckoning. Thanks, @lupita.reads for this amazing rec! It’s definitely a must-read.

I’ve always been a night owl and had trouble falling asleep each night. Inspired by PRH’s #ReadToSleep campaign, I decided to really invest in getting good sleep. So I got a new sleep machine and it has truly changed my life! (I swear this isn’t an ad.) My Hatch restore created a custom bedtime routine that actually works for me: 45 minutes of reading, a 5 minute sleep meditation, 20 minutes of relaxing bedtime stories, and then soft rain sounds until I asleep. Having a set reading time every night helps me put down my phone and actually focus on whatever book I’m reading (current TBR pictured). Going to bed used to be such a stressful, frustrating experience, but it’s now a time that I actually look forward to. And I’m reading so much more because of it ? PS what’s on your nightstand?

I swear this book gave me more chills than the snow storm! This is the fourth book I’ve read by Jane Harper, and the fourth book I’ve loved. I’ll read anything she writes, but THE SURVIVORS is a particularly perfect winter read! About long buried secrets that rises to the surface in a small coastal town, this book is moody and atmospheric, with tension that builds slowly and burns quickly. It’s also a really smart novel of psychological suspense that explorers the long lasting nature of guilt. Highly recommend!

I recently reorganized my bookshelf (because what else is there to do right now!) and got a lot of questions about how I arrange my books. So I made this little annotation to explain the method in my madness! The left column is fiction, alphabetical by author last name. The right shelf is the rest of my fiction, paperbacks, genre fiction and nonfiction—all alphabetical again. And the center is an assortment of my favorite books of all time. I keep extra linens in the cabinets and store some of my shoes on top. ✨How do you organize your shelves?

OBSESSED with my new cross body tote from @portlandleather! They so generously sent me this gorgeous bag and it has been the highlight of my year so far. Okay, maybe that’s melodramatic—but it is a really great tote and the perfect size for books! It also comes in a ton of super cute colors in case you were wondering...

“Don’t tell me I’m undocumented when my name is tattooed on my father’s arm.”✨Weeks after finishing INFINITE COUNTRY, I’m still haunted by scenes, characters, and even individual sentences from this stunning novel. It’s only 208, but it’s one of the most moving, tender, brutally honest novels I’ve ever read. It’s about a family that immigrates from Colombia to the United States in search of opportunity, but finds itself fractured—spread out across different countries and facing different obstacles as they try to find their way back to each. This book brings to life the complexities of the immigrant experience, with a sharp eye and a deep heart. While filled with hardship and sacrifice, it also lights up with love and beauty and strength. INFINITE COUNTRY is one of the best, most essential novels I’ve read in a long time.
