This week we got some news that completely broke our hearts, our beautiful Doug has incurable cancer in his abdomen ???? He had initially been on a course of antibiotics after lumps appeared in his jawline that were thought to just be a saliva gland infection but after he began refusing food, dropping weight and becoming too weak to carry himself all within a week, further tests and scans were carried out and it turned out to be a lymphoma in his abdomen that was causing the reaction. His initial prognosis on Tuesday was that he may not survive this week. He has however reacted well to the steroids he is on and can now hopefully start chemotherapy through a course of tablets later this week. We have been assured that this will not be painful for Doug and will continue to improve his condition, as we would not want for him to be in pain. The chemotherapy will hopefully make the cancer go into remission and Doug will go back to being the Doug we know and love, but the vet has told us that the best we can realistically hope for is another 12 months as it is guaranteed that the cancer will come back at some point, and when it does we will unfortunately lose Doug within a week or two. We wanted to share this with you all publicly as we know so many of you genuinely care for our boys and felt like you should know what is going on. As Doug starts to recover and hopefully go into remission we likely won’t be posting as regular as we normally do for obvious reasons, but who knows we might want to just get as many memories as possible captured and keep sharing them with you! We just wanted this to be out there so you knew what was going on if we are a bit quiet. It’s absolutely floored us this news as I’m sure you’ll all understand, Doug isn’t even 4 years old for another month yet but this is all happening. It doesn’t even seem real, it’s certainly not fair. All we can do now is enjoy the time we have left with him and spoil him like the good boy deserves to be ????????

It is with incredible sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we share the news with you of our gorgeous boy Doug’s passing ????️???? Over the past two weeks signs have slowly been there that his cancer may have returned, and since Monday his symptoms got drastically worse. We were at the vets straight away on Monday and there again on Thursday, with the second visit confirming our fears that his cancer had returned and unfortunately this time there was nothing that could be done. It was clear to both of us that Doug was starting to be in pain and suffering, having refused all food and drink for over 24 hours, after already being very picky for the previous 10 days. Because of this and the vet’s advice, we made the tough decision to let him go. It’s the hardest decision we have ever had to make, but ultimately it was the right one for Doug. The cruelest thing about it all is just how young he was having all this happen to him. Diagnosed when he was still only 3 years old is incredibly unfair for an otherwise perfectly fit and healthy dog. Please do cuddle and fuss your pets as often as you can, you really don’t know when it can all come to an end. We only had a little over four years with our spotty goofball, but they were amazing and we have memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. All we can hope for is Doug felt the same, and we think he did ???????? We’re going to take a little time off here while the pain is still very raw, one day we will be able to look back at all the content we have and see everyone we interact with’s beautiful dogs with joy, but for now it just hurts ???? Thank you everyone for all of your love and support throughout this journey, for Doug, for Boris and for both of us. We really cannot thank you enough, every single one of you have made this last 6 months that little bit easier and we are forever in your debt for that. Tom, Jess, Boris and Doug ????️????????????
