RANDOM DUMP: Here’s some things that happened recently in no particular order. 1. @vin_tra and I have yet to drive our Ferraris together. 2. The Napalm Nova is one of my best cars. 3. The VR86, one step closer to being one step closer. 4. At Pismo with my son enjoying his favorite past time—riding his @ridekayo ea70 quad 5. @bakerashley’s LR4 doesn’t get enough credit, and looks tough on the Defender steelies wrapped in @toyotires 6. @hngn.kikawa would approve. @kubotausa tractors, more than just farming. 7. Hard to drive em all at the same time. 8. My fave place. 9. And we actually harvested avocados this year! 10. Ready for my “Farmers in their Forties” cover shot 11. If I was smart, I’d sell this S8. The last time I wore this vest was to direct what would be my final film with Ken Block; Electrikhana TWO in Mexico City. The @alpinestars vest is a bit coveted for photographers. It’s not something you can buy. I earned mine shooting @officialwrc for @kblock43 ’s rookie year. But it eventually became my on-set uniform for films. While some directors refuse to carry even a single walkie, I stay triple strapped. The vest’s plethora of pockets store my peculiar assortment of filmmaking tools: toy cars, sidewalk chalk, Gold Bond powder, etc. But most importantly, it’s fantastic for smuggling snacks. Zipping it back up for the first day of Second Unit Directing on Sung Kang’s Drifter movie felt almost cathartic. My professional life has felt a tad directionless after leaving Hoonigan (pun unintended). But the moment I stepped on set, things just felt right. It was Ken who first told me on Gymkhana FOUR that I would make a great director. Up until that point I was just the creative consultant and had never even considered it. He had a knack for seeing people’s potential and then convincing them they were not only capable of doing it, but doing it great. On Sunday night, the Drifter crew called wrap on a 22 day shoot, that spanned two months over two coasts with hundreds of friends both new and old. It was an amazing experience, that just solidified to me, what Ken saw over a decade ago. Guess it’s time to inVEST more in this whole Film Director gig. A few years back, I was introduced to @sungkangsta. He was working on a movie and he wanted the action to have a “Gymkhana” feel. This was a dream opportunity. I had always wanted to take our filming style to the big screen. Unfortunately that film never came to fruition. But late last year, Sung approached me to second unit direct a new film he was writing, directing and starring in, called @driftermovie. We started filming principal photography for it in mid July and this weekend will be filming at @legendsofdrift at @racewayparknj, my once local track growing up in NYC. If you are in the area, come thru and be a part of the film… It’s been a blast working on this project, mostly because of all the friends we have been able to include! @321actionaction
