???? @elona explains that in the heart of Tokyo, amidst the hustle and bustle of the largest city in the world, time slows down for Hisao Mitani and his tortoise, Bon-chan, taking their daily stroll. Once small enough to fit in Mr. Mitani’s hand, Bon-chan has grown into a 70 kg local celebrity, often dressed in adorable seasonal outfits as he makes his way through town ???? Hisao Mitani didn’t know that the little shell of an African spurred tortoise would become his [massive] lifelong companion for nearly 28 years and counting. Bon-chan moves at his own slow and steady pace, completely unfazed by the city’s energy. Mr. Mitani walks beside him patiently. Bon-chan leads the way. People stop, shocked at first but then they smile and take photos - it’s impossible not to be charmed. This was by far one of my favorite days in Tokyo - we just got incredibly lucky. Some say that Mr. Mitani walks Bon-chan only a few times a week and at random times. Their walks only last about an hour. If you’re lucky enough to see them, be mindful - respect their space and ask before taking photos. My friend @Kohki spoke to Mr. Mitani, who happily shared stories about his life with Bon-chan (in Japanese). Slovenia is the hidden gem of Central Europe ???????? It’s a small country, with a population of only a little over 2 million.
