after @amandablacksa finished writing her part for “nguwe,” i asked if she still had time & energy to create. @jsmash_sa played this instrumental @raven_cable had cooked up and the whole room lit up! but here’s what moved me most: Amanda is xhosa, i’m venda, yet she was willing to twist her tongue around my language for the sake of our song. you can hear her accent when she sings in venda. that bravery, that commitment to step outside her linguistic comfort zone and embrace something unfamiliar, spoke volumes about who she is as an artist and as a person and for that i’m grateful. in that moment, we were building bridges between cultures, languages and hearts. my wife & i walked out to this song for the first time as mr. & mrs. so this one holds a special place in our hearts ❤️ meet me at the altar cc: @unarams
