Crazy sketchbook doodles turned stylish cuff bracelets, kinetic cluster rings and powder painted clusters of impossibly interlinked oxidised silver shapes; the only thing keener than the compositional prowess of Turkish design duo Ela Cindoruk and Nazan Pak are their MAD enamelling skills- testified by the SPECTACULAR ‘Foam’ brooch attached to this post! Featuring a whopping SEVENTY-ONE individually enamelled blackened gold convex half-spheres, Nazan Pak’s Foam is making me think of some fantastical conglomeration of Scarlet Elf Cups; plucked from the forest floor and arranged in the dead of night by unseen woodland sprites, perhaps? (It’s brain-meltingly hot. Humor me. ????) If this piece is doing it for you anywhere NEAR as much as it’s doing it for me, it’s probably because our human brains are wired to REALLY get off of repetitive motifs and recurring patterns; like a heartbeat, honeycomb hexagons, scales on a pinecone or notes on a stave. Something about comfort, order and structure, I guess! OH: and if you thought that THIS little beauty represented the height of textured ingenuity vis a vis ‘Cindorukpak’, you HAVEN’T seen their MOILY DOILY brooches yet… Let’s just say they’re ombréd, they’re acid-coloured AND they’re styled to resemble ever-so-slightly rumpled die-cut paper doilies.
