Here’s a look at how the women’s marathon played out globally in 2025 if you took the average of the top 10 performances. The top 10 Averages were compiled by Brett Larner of @japanrunningnews. Ethiopia remained the top country with Hawi Feysa winning the Chicago Marathon in 2:14:57 and @tigist__assefa winning the London Marathon in 2:15:50 for a women’s-only marathon world record. Kenya stayed at No. 2 but claimed the world-leading time with @jepkosgei36’s 2:14:00 at the Valencia Marathon. Kenya had six women break 2:18 in 2025. The United States held steady at No. 4. The fastest time by an American woman in 2025 was @jesstonn’s 2:22:43 for 7th place at the Boston Marathon. North Korea, which only had two women’s marathoners compete in China in 2024, had its most women’s marathon finishers since before the COVID-19 pandemic and had five women under 2:30 in 2025. NCAA Cross Country champion @habtom_samuel_ will make his road racing and half marathon debut at the Houston Half Marathon on Jan. 11th. The 22-year-old just ran 13:05.21 for 5000m at Boston University last month. His 10,000m PB is 26:51.06 from The Ten in March 2025. Some notable entries on the women’s side: – Ethiopia’s Tsigie Gebreselama (No. 12 on the all-time list) is the top woman on paper with her 1:04:21 from last year’s Lisbon Half. – 2025’s U.S. half marathon champion @taylor.roe_ will run her third career half marathon. – @a_vestri , who also qualified for the Team USA for the World Road Running Championships before they were cancelled, is also entered. Vestri was 4th in last year’s Houston Half with a 1:07:35 run. – @imtinyrik returns to Houston for the half after running 2:22:56 for the full there last year. – As she hinted after her win at the Dash to The Finish 5K, @andrearodenfels is going to give 13.1 a crack in Houston. ????
