The Hampton family is seeking to secure Fred Hampton’s legacy by turning his childhood home into a museum and community resource center with programs akin to the 1960s Panther programs that helped Black people meet their basic needs.

A federal lawsuit has been filed against two Cincinnati police officers who attacked Brandon Davis, a 32-year-old Black man who’s autistic, for ”walking home while Black”. Davis spent several nights in jail and was acquitted several months later on charges for being in a park after dark and resisting arrest.

According to the lawsuit, Davis wasn’t in a park and didn’t resist arrest while he was shoved into a fence and tased for over 2 minutes.

You may recall Columbus, Ohio is also where police fatally shot Casey Goodson and Andre Hill.

27-year-old Kimberly Diei, a Black pharmacy graduate student at the University of Tennessee, has filed a lawsuit against the school after being faced with expulsion for her social media posts. The school said the photos of Diei, which showed her cleavage in a tight dress, were “vulgar,” “crude,” and not within the mores of her chosen profession. The suit argues that the public university violated her constitutional right of free expression.

Seeing the curves on a Black curvy woman with a tight dress on is normal. We cannot help the way our bodies are shaped. Is it reasonable for a university or profession to police what a woman wears on her personal social media? Comment below!

Plano, Texas police are investigating bullying incidents involving SeMarion Smith, a Black male student at Haggard Middle School.

SeMarion’s mother made a public Facebook post detailing her son’s incidents of being attacked physically, called racial slurs, forced to drink urine and having his inhaler taken by a coach.

The school district released a public statement saying they’re cooperating in the investigation after SeMarion’s initial reports of bullying to staff members was overlooked. A GoFundMe campaign launched to cover therapy and private schooling for SeMarion raised more than $30,000 in 1 day.

The oldest and longest serving juvenile lifer in the U.S., Joe Ligon, who is Black, was released after nearly 70 years in prison.

In 1953 at age 15, Ligon plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder after a robbery and stabbing spree with a group of friends in Philadelphia that left six people wounded and two people dead. Ligon admitted in court to stabbing one person but maintains he never killed anyone to this very day.

In 2020, a Supreme Court ruling allowed Ligon's attorney to argue that a mandatory life sentence for a crime committed as a juvenile was unconstitutional. The case was won, granting Ligon complete freedom at the age of 83.
