We kayaked the Bass Strait! ???? This one was pretty special. We had been talking about tackling this adventure for a few years but it wasn’t until the water dancer that is Richard Barnes invited us to join his little crew a few months ago that we got serious. We sourced a kayak, booked the ferry, bought some spray skirts and locked it in. And, WOW. The strait was 350 kilometres of pure magic. We island hopped from Port Albert in Victoria to Wilson’s Prom. Onto Hogan island, Erith and Deal Island, Roydon and Flinders. There were dolphins and penguins and fish everywhere. We floated through huge flocks of birds, had a near miss with a tanker and hiked up Mount Strzelecki. The long days of paddling got me good, but when it delivered us to untouched places, that we had all to ourselves, I couldn’t complain about the numb bum too much. A huge thank you to: Team Goose - Rich, Mark and Muz! We did it! The lads, Tim and Hugh for the laughs and the fish feeds. Climbing Lobuche East After trekking over the Chola Pass we rested for a day before heading to Lobuche High Camp. Reaching camp at midday we had time to eat, relax, and watch on as other teams descended from the mountain. The next morning we rose at 1am, ate, and began making our way up the rocky escarpment at 2am. We stayed in hiking boots until the rocks turned to snow half way up the mountain, where we switched into crampons. Just as the sun began to light the sky at 6am we hit the summit. It was a rare and special feeling to feel somewhat fresh on a summit and be able to take in the incredible colours of Mother Nature. It was a quick and safe rappel down into thicker air and big sleeps at Pheriche. Thank you to my team for an unforgettable adventure. ???????? You are all incredible. Climbing Cholatse. Mingma checked the weather, there was only a short window before snow and winds would hit the mountain. Despite doing a rotation up to camp 1 the day before, we decided to head back up and try a summit push without a rest day, and without a camp 2 to take advantage of the window. Mingma and Phurba charged out of base camp ahead of us to collect tents from Camp 2 and bring them back down to Camp 1 (superhumans!) We quickly packed our gear and began the 5 hour climb towards the giant headwall we would settle on top of for the night. We “woke” (is it “waking” if you don’t sleep?) at 2:30am, dressed, and ate, before clipping into the fixed line and starting our way up the mountain at 3:30am. A fun rocky section morphed into headwall after headwall, testing our fitness. At around 10:30am we reached Camp 2 and the false summit. The conditions were perfect, but with 3 more hours still to reach the true summit, and non existent fixed lines we made the decision to turn back. Three hours later we arrived at Camp 1 and crawled into our tents, descending back to base camp the following morning. This mountain was A BEAST. And we wouldn’t have come any where close to the summit without our amazing Sherpa, Mingma, Phurba and Pemba from @extreme_ascent_trekking Lobuche next! #cholatse #nepal #gokyo #cholapass #mountaineering

Just arrived in Namche Bazaar. Getting in the good juju in before we head into the mountains for the final sufferfest of 2024. So excited to be back in the thin air with the team. Today we hiked up Gokyo Ri (around 5350 metres) to begin acclimatising for that big beautiful mountain behind me, Cholatse. Over the next two days we will make our way to Base Camp, then begin our rotations up to Camp 1 and 2 before attempting a summit push in just over a weeks time.
