Chicken Bum Takeaway / Duck Bum BBQ. This might be my favourite *job* ever. I told the full back story recently with @imposterpod (if you’d care to listen)… But essentially: While on a quick beach getaway with the fam last year, we all played pretend shop through a kitchen window with my nephew Lenny, who (hilariously) decided to name his place of imaginary business, “Chicken Bum Takeaway”. My husband played along too, threatening to open a fierce competitor “across the road” (as he prepared our actual dinner within earshot), aptly called “Duck Bum BBQ”. There were lots of giggles and lots more salt and vinegar chips (the only thing on the menu, it turns out). And I got sooooo into it, that I felt compelled to later capture the memory with handmade service-style tees for both fictional businesses, gifted to Lenny (then 4), and his brother Ziggy (then 2) for Christmas. If you visit the podcast ep you’ll hear the absolute joy, magic, wonder, enthusiasm I feel about this stuff. To use my creativity to celebrate moments with the little people in my life, in hopes we’ll look back on those times even more fondly in the future. There is no greater privilege or pleasure for me. ✨

That’s probably fitting given this one’s purpose; A cover image for a new binder/folder in which I plan to physically collect and keep all of the praise I can find. Praise for my work, teaching, relationships, deep chats… whatever… to look back through in times where my brain is screaming that (just like this artwork), I’m a little “too much”.

Damn it, should’ve posted this one yesterday. Anyway, not just a stack of cardboard boxes; I was proper excited to spontaneously spot this ol’ custom logo of mine for @everfresh_confectionery out the back of @bigdreamsemporium emporium whilst there taggin’ in the lead up to Christmas. Didn’t even think to swipe a couple of Aus made choccie freckles from the secret stash…

What a novelty it was to pick up the paintbrushes alongside my sister this week for a mural she designed and painted with her grade 2 students and fellow teachers at Coburg North Primary. I came on in the last couple of days just to add some freehand lettering — of the school values and admirable character traits — to the trunk and leaves of the tree. I so enjoyed admiring the work of the students (they each designed and painted their own flower on the base) as well as their hearty encouragement shouted from the playground; (I counted many a “Slayyy, Queen!” during my stint). Which just about made the near 40 degree heat and super textured wall surface all worth it. Thanks for having me, @alle_schnitzel and team! ???? ???? ????️

DING ✨ DONG ✨ DING ✨ DONG This one’s for anybody who finds this time of year brings up grief, loneliness, complicated family dynamics or any other combo of tricky not-so-festive feelings (often) set off by all the extra holiday fluff around us. I’ve found mine’s already a mix of pure magic and joy (through the eyes of our 3yr old) and also a big bunch of multifaceted pain; wishing things could be different for us, along with the usual heartache of missing “Meme” (and knowing what she’s missing out on, too). DM’s are open if you need somewhere to share your own season’s “grievings”. Love to all x

Not to toot my own horn, but had I ever been organised enough to attend an open day as a prospective student, this activity sheet alone would have won me over. I probably haven’t mentioned that over the last few years *mainly since becoming a mum and losing my own* my main practice has gradually (almost accidentally) shifted over to teaching. And there I’ve been pleasantly surprised at just how much fulfilment I get out of supporting students in the early stages of their Graphic Design journey; be it with their first custom lettering compositions or in harnessing the true wonders of Indesign (nested character styles within paragraph styles). And all on the same campus I studied at too, just over 10 years ago. I had lots of fun drawing and chatting today with “art kids” of all ages. Told them all that it was in these very classrooms after manyyyy “failed” years down the wrong study path that I finally felt that I’d found “my people”. So here’s hoping I recruited a few to join us. — *FYI calligraphy & manual lettering techniques are taught in first year, first semester, across Diploma and Associate Degree, both of which I teach. ✌???? @rmituniversity

Welcoming baby CLEO the only way “Aunty” Eliza knows how… getting lost in my iPad for 33hrs trying to remember all I could about shadows and shine from year 11 Vis Comm class… Which is pretty much where her dad and I forged a friendship; first supporting (and gently critiquing each other’s drawings) but later evolving and expanding into a deeper connection that we’ve been fortunate enough to hold dear for over 20 years now. While drawing this I had a lot of time to reflect on what a privilege it is to see you become a parent @christian117, and also how excited I feel to watch on as our kids grow up and (hopefully!) form a strong bond (and a love for art?????????) for themselves. You and Mama @_emmariquelme have made an absolute SWEETHEART ???? ???? I can’t wait to get to know her better… and unashamedly become the fave house guest by sneaking her lollies while you’re not looking. ❤️
