This is my grandma’s watch My grandma was my favorite person in the whole world. She was everything I wanted and still want to be. A caring mom, the best grandma, the most supportive wife all while being the smartest business woman. Anyone who knew her would tell you she was was the most helpful, genuine and pure hearted soul. She made those around her believe in the existence of truly good people. She was always the cool mom that supported her kids’ smallest ideas, not just her kids, their friends too. When my dad was around 21, he wanted to start a business with his friends, so they decided to open a little sandwich shop in the club ... she made all the sandwiches for them. She was the type of person that remembered everyones birthday and made sure they felt celebrated. The type of person that knew everyones favorite chocolate, perfume and how they prefer to drink their tea after enjoying her infamous hawawshi. The type of person that always had people over. When my sister got married, we mentioned my grandma’s name in front of her husbands driver (years after she passed away) and he continued to tell us how good of a person she was and his story with her She passed away a couple of years ago, right before my wedding. My cousins came together and decided I should have her watch and I’ve wore it every day since then. I carry a piece of her every day and every where I go, reminding myself of everything that made her, the coolest woman I’ll ever know and trying to embody that. We raid our mom and grandma’s closets. Sometimes we find pieces that never went out of style, that grab peoples attention and turn people’s head, and we feel satisfaction in saying “its from my mom’s closet”. It feels special and personal. Other times, we find pieces that hold meaning, memories, and traits of people we once and always will love. Thats why - some of the best things in life, come straight out of your mama’s closet
