Happy to share the images of my new permanent sculpture recently installed in Latera, Italy!! The work was conceived during my first stay in the small town and draws inspiration from a familiar, everyday object: the curtains hanging in the doorways of many homes, used to keep insects out. At the same time, through local voices and stories passed down from generation to generation, I came to understand Latera’s deep historical connection to its water sources. The interplay between this recurring domestic feature and the town’s enduring relationship with water inspired a sculpture that evokes the image of a waterfall - shaped as a monumental, mobile threshold that gently sways in the wind. Standing four meters tall and one meter wide, the sculpture is composed of 5.000 sodalite stones, a magmatic mineral known for its deep blue hues, resonating with the geological origins of the land on which Latera stands. With its presence and dynamic form, the installation expresses a desire for transformation interwoven with memory and tradition, giving shape to an ongoing dialogue between past and present. As always, a heartfelt thank you to all the people who worked with me on this very special project and helped bring this vision to life, especially @squareworld_studio, @jay_t_world, @massimo_devino ???????? I’m very proud to unveil the pictures of “11:42”, my first permanent outdoor sculpture, located in the park of Torre Mammona, Assisi. This has been an incredible journey, and seeing it installed feels like a dream come true. “11:42” is a site-specific installation nestled in a secluded grove, where a dynamic interplay of perspectives transforms the experience. Though seemingly static, the work shifts as viewers approach and move through it. Its title marks the moment - 11:42 a.m. - when the earthquake of September 26, 1997, shattered Giotto’s iconic starry frescoes in the Basilica of San Francesco. Balancing elements of nature’s unpredictability and human vulnerability, Vullo designed “11:42” to evoke both precariousness and resilience. The sculpture evokes the skeleton of the Basilica’s ribbed vaults but presents a different vision: the sky is no longer frescoed but opens up to the real celestial vault, making it an integral part of the installation and reaffirming the inseparable connection between society and the uncontrollable forces of nature. The tension between the fear of collapse and the trust needed to engage fully with the work invites a profound, reflective connection. A huge thank you to Roberto, Sara, Angelo, Andrea, curator Clara Scola (@scolapendraa), and @squareworld_studio for trusting my vision and making this possible. A special one goes to my brothers @giorgioromairone and @jay_t_world, always ready to push the work to the next level. The park will open to the public in 2026 Text by @scolapendraa Pictures by @_stopmakingsense #sculpture #publicsculpture #installation #balance

Some behind-the-scenes from my latest permanent sculpture “Threshold”. From the first mock-up to the final installation, with a few moments captured in the studio along the way ???? The process began with a life-size model in crumpled aluminum foil, used to study the structure and how it would work in space. Once the sodalite stones were sourced, each one was drilled, sorted by size, and organized by the depth of its blue tone. The vision was to create a flowing, curtain-like form that mimics the movement of water in space. The final composition was inspired by the natural veining found in marble and onyx. I collected reference images and used AI to generate a new blended pattern, which was then pixelated and turned into a detailed layout, a precise guide for placing each individual stone. The whole process took several months of work. What a journey. Thanks to @squareworld_studio and @jay_t_world @massimo_devino for working with me on this exciting project.
