Grateful for our partners doing this work around the city. @seedsofhope_la gave Ms. Brie 100 seedlings to fill her garden beds at @rockdalerockets . The 1st graders were so excited to get to transplant seedlings into their empty beds.

Weed pulling competition at @rockdalerockets between 3rd grade classes. This looks like a GIANT weed and I’m sure Ms. Brie was very happy that it is no longer in the bed!

Student in beige sweatshirt and jeans holds up a big chunk of grass. They are holding it over their face, showing that it is bigger than their face. The student stands in the garden at Rockdale Elementary.

Kindergarteners at Rockdale had their first in person garden class today! These paper bags were sporadically placed in beds throughout the garden. Students were assigned numbers and they had to find their bag. They then identified a letter, the color of the letter, learned the type of seed, counted the seeds, and planted, all while staying socially distanced.

The biggest thing that students have missed in garden programming this year is cooking class! Students love cooking classes because they not only get to harvest, cook, and EAT their food, it provides fun connections to their classroom work (fractions, geography, fruit/veggie identification, health standards, etc).

Here is a virtual filming set up for a rainbow salad demo.
