At five years old, I lost my mum. Knitting became my comfort — my language — a meditative process I would later realise was my therapy. Fast-forward a knitwear degree and working across the global fashion industry, I saw the UK knitwear industry disappearing. If nothing changed, it would be lost. So I decided to do something about it. For the past decade, I’ve been building Genevieve Sweeney — celebrating artisanal skills, British manufacturing, and proudly making 30% of our production in-house at our Hertfordshire studio. At first I thought in 2016 I had no clue- I was so naive. I was scrappy, I went bold and big, I learnt quick and failed fast. I wasn’t very good at documenting that is for sure… but it was amazing to look back - laugh at the failures and feel proud of the amazing achievements.
