The rich red tones of this room by @petermikic look spectacular when lit up at night. The owners of the house called in Peter for a major overhaul of the interior architecture and decoration after living in the house for 30 years, and he has executed a masterful balancing act between offbeat elements (like the graphic wall to wall rug in this room) and the interior’s more traditional roots. 'As an American, I had a vision in my head of the perfect English country house, but it came from films or from David Hicks' decoration books of the Sixties,' says interior designer @henrifitz. 'I don't do period houses, and I don't want to live the life of a country squire.' As a result, her own Shropshire house - despite its four-metre ceilings and grand rooms - is never intimidating. The kitchen is on a particularly majestic scale, but its modern white tiles, marble surfaces and black lights from @trainspotters.co.uk are still in keeping with Henri's signature modern style. Woody House, a romantic bluff-top 1930s abode in East Hampton at the nexus of the Atlantic Ocean and Georgica Pond, is renowned for its five acres of magnificent gardens, which were inspired by Mughal gardens, the garden designs of Gertrude Jekyll, and Sissinghurst Castle Garden, among others. The house itself, meanwhile, has been a project of @cicognanikallaarchitect for the last thirty years, and features in Pietro Cicognani's recent book. ‘I was raised in a beautiful place,' says Melissa Richardson of @jamjar_flowers of her childhood in Sussex, 'and my father was a wonderful gardener. Flowers crowded out of beds and onto paths. Clematis, honeysuckle and roses climbed up and tumbled over soft, rosy brick walls to reappear on the other side. And beyond the walls were deep woods, where as children we would pick wildflowers to bring back and put in jam jars on the kitchen table.’ Those jam jars became the inspiration for her business, JamJar Flowers, and for her own romantic garden in Brixton. Cadland House is exquisitely sited in its own extensive grounds, encircled by gardens designed by Capability Brown and set back from a long private beach facing the Isle of Wight with the New Forest stretching behind it. The owners are Aldred and Fiona Drummond, who moved here after they married in 2007, taking over from Aldred's parents, and run the estate with entrepreneurial energy. Follow the link in our profile to read more, and see how Fiona has adapted the decoration (with important elements designed by David Hicks in the 1970s) for modern life.

@robertcarslawdesign's house is a rural idyll of the sort that can be found only in the temperate climate of the far South West – in this case, concealed at the end of winding country lanes and a long driveway, yet only a few miles from the university town of Falmouth. Inside, the handsome house is decorated with antique furnishings and numerous prints and paintings inherited or collected over many years. Asked about his favourite elements, Robert’s response is, ‘I can truly say that I love every bit of it.’ Follow the link in our profile to read the full story.

There are some families that seem to dominate a whole area of life and, just as the name Kennedy is inextricably linked with American politics, and Mitford with aristocratic dash, so Conran immediately conjures up the well-designed lifestyle. It's no great surprise, therefore, to find @SophieConran's country house in West Sussex a microcosm of brightly burning fires, brimming vases and intriguing furnishings.
