Early last week my dad had a bad fall and was transferred to a hospital in Seattle where he is still recovering. His injury was pretty traumatic but he is improving every day. I’m staying with mom in the valley and will be here for the foreseeable as we figure out the next steps.???????? Needless to say this would have been impossible to deal with from another country. I am even more grateful than I was before to be home. ❤️✨????

These kids have so much to learn about island life in the woods. Making s’mores and playing “chubby bunny” has been a big part of the learning process. ????

This pic was taken by the loveliest of lovelies, @charlottebland when we were shooting my cookbook! It will be going up as my profile pic for a new food project I’m SO excited to be working on that launches next week!! GAH! Stay tuned! ????

Here’s what I’ve learned about rural island life so far: 1. Everything is more expensive when you live on an island: food, gas, etc. 2. People refer to things being “on island” or “off island”. Drop the “the” to sound like a local. 3. In a community of 10K it is surprising how quickly you start to recognize familiar faces. 4. The local Facebook pages often post about lost animals, but it is just as likely to be a dog as it is a peacock or cow. 5. When driving always look out for deer! Did I miss anything? ????

Two bushels of beautiful, juicy apples picked fresh and processed the same day (washed, peeled, cored, sliced and into the pot). Looks like we just might be up and running in time to fulfill December orders! ???? #applebutter

Took a ferry to nearby Harstine Island to visit with my dear friend @tall_julia and her lovely family. They have a stunning house on the water so the first thing we did was to pull out some kayaks, paddle boards and a row boat. What an absolute joy it is to be back home!! ???? ???? ????️???????????????????????? 1. I was reminded how difficult row boats are to maneuver. ???? 2. Big kids in kayaks. 3. Younger kids on paddle boards. 4. Those aren’t rocks, they’re oysters!!

Last night we picked a few hundred apples, plums and blackberries for cider making. ???????? It was (somewhat unbelievably) my first time pressing cider but it will absolutely not be the last! Apple season in Washington state is in full force so you know what comes next . . . ????
