For those of you who know me or have followed my journey for any amount of time, you know that I eat, sleep and breathe #smallbusiness & #entrepreneurship. I mean, I may tend to fixate a little...

Right now business owners of every size and in every industry are just trying to keep their heads above water.
For some the struggle is learning to pivot daily while keeping costs low. Some are trying to overcome supply chain issues & shortages. Others are simply trying to keep up with demand, but lack the labor or capital to do so. Even those who’s industry has simply been drowned by the weight of regulations and public opinion.

Coming from a long line of entrepreneurs, growing up in small businesses as well as owning multiple myself, I know first hand how much heart & soul small business owners put into their companies.

Small businesses are the pillars of our local culture and watching them being destroyed one by one is killing me.

Well, since our Secretary of State & his office didn’t care enough to right their gross negligence in regards to my candidacy paperwork, I ended up as a write in candidate for the district 18 state senate seat. Since I’m not printed on the ballot it’s a bit of a crap shoot, but at least I know I got one vote!

For those who are curious, I reached out to the Idaho Secretary of States office repeatedly in regards to getting on the ballot as an independent and was blown off/ignored and then given incorrect information.
I was then finally told the due date for a write in candidate 6 hours before it was due and still managed to pull off the 50 registered voter signatures, confirmed by the county and turned in time. This is the same amount of signatures I would’ve needed to be an independent candidate(which gets printed on the ballot, in turn increasing your odds significantly), but since they had blown off my emails and not responded to me with the information I requested in a timely manner the due date had passed the week prior. So, in an effort to cover their own mistake they had me register as a write in (if I could make the deadline they finally told me about 6 hours prior to, which I did).

I’m just curious how many other potential candidates they’ve done this to? If they had done their jobs correctly I would’ve had more than enough time to be registered as an independent candidate and been printed on the ballot. Once I said that I wanted this gross oversight corrected, all of a sudden my emails started getting kicked back by their server and my email to the main office, actual Secretary of State & the Governor all went unanswered.

Perhaps it wasn’t in the cards this time or perhaps they should take every candidate seriously. I’m all around pretty disappointed by these actions of lack there of.

I don’t even have the words to recap what the last 365 days have been like. I think that’s probably how we all feel right now. Although, I can say that this photo speaks to it in volumes. To me it offers much more than a 1,000 words.

365 days ago I took this photo. I’d borrowed my brothers car (he’s always there for me when I need him❤️) because my lil prius wasn’t exactly a cruiser on winter roads. ?RIP Pri Pri

I decided to take that drive because I needed to pull back & clear my head. My journey in life has always been a bit of a roller coaster(understatement ?) and I’d just finished overcoming yet another large obstacle in my life, right before the world as we knew it would change forever. I was mentally, physically, emotionally, & financially depleted. Suffice it to say, I was on empty long before any pandemic showed up.
?
As it turns out, we’re actually pretty similar to a well made vehicle. In the sense that whatever/whomever created us, was smart enough to put in a reserve tank. You know, just in case we ever run out of fuel along our journey.

If you can’t seem to tap into yours for some reason, my advice would be to find your purpose or at least start looking. I can assure you, I wouldn’t still be standing here today if it wasn’t for knowing & working towards mine.

Our perception is our reality. That said, moving forward I’m choosing to see a wide open road with scenic views & myself, happily clear headed, wide awake and cruising off into the sunset of my dreams. (Enjoying those tunes & heated leather seats of course)

Of course originally I planned for it to be perfectly aligned, but isn’t that exactly how things work? Nothing is ever perfect, most certainly not love.
It didn’t work out exactly like it was planned, but it turned out exactly as it was meant to be.
If we can learn to see the perfection in imperfection, we open ourselves up to giving & receiving a whole lot more love.
