i mean.. i have to give myself credit. i’ve changed sooo much ???? people often see me now and tell me how lucky i am that i ‘pass’ or how privileged i am but you don’t see the behind the scenes. the work it takes to literally fund your own transition to get to a point where you can actually feel safe in a transphobic society. grateful for my femininity and my strength today

transitioning publicly online was really difficult. i made a collage. it’s a photo of me recently and a selection of some of the comments i received over the first couple of years of my transition.

a lot of the comments were from gay men and other trans women - people that were supposed to be ‘my community’. the rest were from people who simply found me attractive and didn’t want me to transition.

it hurts to look back, to remember how little self worth i had and to remember how i’d lost all hope that things would ever be okay. it’s also a blessing to reflect and KNOW for sure how strong i am and that i didn’t need validation from anyone else to be myself.

if you can take anything away from my journey let it be that trans people should transition at their own pace and present how they wish to.

remember that attempting to overcome years of self-repression doesn’t happen overnight so support us every step of the way - not just when we reach your idea of beauty.
