Bird keeping is a popular past time for the Indonesian people, especially for the Javanese. It runs in their DNA. I read in a forum that there are an estimated 75 million birds kept as pets in Java alone, primarily songbirds. To juxtapose this there are roughly 76 million dogs in the entirety of of the USA and the island of Java is just a little bigger than the state of Florida.

Of course this study suggests a slew of problems arising from this, including rapidly declining numbers of songbirds in the wild.
But never the less it cannot take away from the treat it was to experience the connection between this stoic farmer and his unusual companion. The owl went with him everywhere, they often locked eyes together and then just continued carrying about their business. Bonds between man and unusual animals have always been so fascinating to me

Sometimes I have such specific memories linked to photos I’ve taken. Like this one for example.

I remember @alivelikethewind and I were both terrified diving at this cave. There was no one here and once you dive down to the bottom it was dark… really dark. The only thing you could really see was these beams of light illuminating little areas in the cave, everything else was just blackness. Of course all your mind does is tell you that there is obviously a sea monster back there in the darkness and he is inevitably going to emerge any second now.

I dove down first, lined up the beams for this shot and waited for Cle to swim down and get into position. While I was waiting I was looking into the darkness, imagining the leviathan that was about to emerge and eat me. So of course I started to pee.

Now it’s pretty normal for people to pee in their wetsuits. It is not so normal however for people to do what I decided in this moment to be a good idea. I had undone the bottom of my wetsuit and started peeing like I would normally on land. And just as I started peeing Cle swam into position at the beam. So I just started shooting him, both hands on the camera and my wetsuit pants undone as I swam around. My willie was like a baited worm on a hook fluttering through the water as I swam around waiting for that sea monster in the darkness to come take the bait.

I don’t know if Cle ever noticed, he certainly didn’t mention it when we both came back up for air as I casually fixed my pants back on properly.

So anyways ya. I took this photo while I was peeing. Happy Sunday.

This past month I partnered with @TheRayy to capture their new line of Jewelry, FACETS. The shooting process for this campaign was really fun! The face of the jewelry is extremely reflective and I found it very satisfying bringing it into different environments and watching it play with light. What’s unique about these pieces is that they are sculpted in a way that when light is shined onto the jewelry it will cast a reflection of an image. I am blown away by what people are able to create, this jewelry really is one of kind and makes for a great gift for this upcoming holiday season.

I’ve posted these specific volcanoes quite a bit over the past few years. I’ve been back to the spot numerous times since @maulananovaan first took me in 2018. One of those sentimental places for me

Ok I have a few question you.
Do you see social media affecting creativity? Furthermore do you think following trends is hurtful or helpful for an individual trying to propel a career in art?

This is my opinion. I have seen that many creators on this platform have a tendency to create based on performance. What does well with their audience, the algorithm etc. How many times have you seen the same photo of the same location from different artists? This is because that photo performs well and incentivizes artists to recreate rather than create. And you know what, I have definitely been guilty of this!
Trends I see as something very similar.

For me it ultimately comes down to simply looking at the definition of creativity - the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. I think this definition easily slips away from artists on social media at times. I think being creative in your craft is profoundly more important than creating things on a performance basis. Because the reality is when you excel in your craft and you bring original ideas to the table it is only a matter of time before you become noticed.

I want to clarify that I don’t think trends are a bad thing and I don’t think people who follow trends are not creative. But it can be dangerous when the body of your work is based on performance because in the collage of this era of art, it will stand unnoticed next to everyone else’s work who did the same things.

What’s extremely unique about these pieces is that they are sculpted in a way that when light is shined onto the jewelry it will cast a reflection of an image. It’s truly been fun experimenting how light reflects off of the jewelry and how I could capture this in different ways. The jewelry is personalized and makes for a great gift for this upcoming holiday season!

“2015”, “2016”, “2017”… Ive been scrolling through my photo archive folders on my hard drives. Part nostalgia, but mainly just looking for something to post on the gram

I can’t believe I took this photo almost 5 years ago! It feels just like yesterday when we were driving around northern Bali on scooters for weeks at a time. Such simple times, each day was a new adventure figuring out which direction was the next waterfall.
