KAPPO KAPPO Excited to share Kappo Kappo, the newest restaurant at @austinproperhotel This intimate 25 seat space is rooted in the Japanese kappo tradition, where chef and guest connect over every course. We began with research to understand what kappo truly means. Intimacy. Ritual. Relationship. Every design decision followed. Native cypress treated in shou sugi ban and stained a deep verdant green grounds the room. Handmade tile wraps the walls, each piece slightly varied, creating a living surface. Illuminated millwork screens, our interpretation of traditional shoji, bring warmth and glow. Three commissioned illuminated quilted works by artist Minjae Kim, inspired by the kimono, add sculptural softness. Leathered stone tables, ebonized sandblasted pine chairs, and vintage accents layer in history and texture. The goal was to dissolve the barrier between kitchen and guest. You are not just dining. You are part of the experience. @kappokappoaustin XK

GARDEN PARTY The outdoor environment matters as much as what happens inside. At home, I loved collaborating with our landscape designer on the greenery… thinking about how plants, trees, and hardscaping shape the entire experience. Pots are part of that story, which made designing this collection with @serax_official so exciting. It’s my first outdoor/indoor ceramic collection, and I really thought about scale, proportion, and how each piece adds to the landscape. Perfect for the season ahead. Four design families: Dune, Rift, Mesa, and Book, each inspired by natural phenomena. From Dune’s fluid curves to Book’s weathered rectangular volumes, Rift’s vertical lines, and Mesa’s ridged detailing… the artisanal craftsmanship and natural glazing create surfaces that shift with light throughout the day. Each piece feels alive and ever-changing. The complete collection is available at kellywearstler.com XK

FRIEZE LA Frieze Los Angeles always reminds me why I love this city so much. Where global blue chip galleries meet emerging L.A. voices, creating a beautiful tension. I walk the fair as both a collector and a curator for my projects, thinking about scale, energy, and how a work will shift a space. I had a very successful day. Beyond the art, I love the social element. Running into friends I have not seen in a minute . The spontaneous conversations. The creative cross pollination. It is cultural, but it is also community. Grateful to Deutsche Bank for hosting the early preview. Those quiet first hours before the rush are when you really see. Thank you, Frieze for an inspiring day. XK

ALPINE BRUTALISM My studio and I have just completed a deeply personal project in the French Alps… the dining rooms for Beefbar at L’Apogee Courchevel. Working at altitude changes your perspective. The scale, the silence, the drama of the landscape demand architectural clarity. We leaned into a restrained Brutalist language, monolithic volumes, strong silhouettes, a sense of permanence, softened by the intimacy and warmth of mountain living. A palette of deep pine, charcoal, burnished ochre, and garnet unfolds against near-black stone and brushed local timber. Surfaces are tactile and elemental. Light is low and atmospheric, designed to glow against the alpine night. Central to the project were bespoke commissions with French artists and artisans. Sculptural works were created specifically for these rooms, echoing the geology and strata of the surrounding peaks. Local craftspeople shaped custom wood paneling, forged metal details, and hand-finished surfaces that carry the imprint of the maker. That dialogue between contemporary expression and traditional French craftsmanship grounds the space culturally and emotionally. XK

A BLUEPRINT FOR: AUSTIN This week on my Substack newsletter, WEARSTLERWORLD: Austin has quietly become one of the most important cities in our lives... part work, part family, part ritual. It’s a city I’ve built a real rhythm in. I’m sharing my full guide... where to stay, what to eat, where to drink, where to wander, and the places that keep pulling us back. It’s personal. It’s edited. It’s the Austin I actually do. Full story now live on WEARSTLERWORLD – link in bio. XK
