Sometimes I ask myself if I am aligning my doing with what actually matters? Seen in this frame, even small actions may carry more weight than usual. A message, a meeting or a piece of writing may feel underpinned by quiet discipline rather than wild spontaneity and mirror the answer. It’s not a measurement of output, but a feeling of presence. Practice, lineage, commitment, devotion, intention—all arise from a place beyond the marketplace of performance. What about you? What are your inner reflections bringing up today? Enjoying this blast of cool fall air where it feels like a refrigerator outside and the leaves are starting ti turn ???? I have successfully bundled up! In Sanskrit, avidyā means ignorance, not only in the sense of not knowing facts, but also and perhaps more importantly of forgetting our true nature. Diwali, the festival of lights, invites us to recognize and shine light on that inner shadow. The lamps symbolize awareness and remind us that knowledge (jñāna) and discernment (viveka) are the means by which we find our way through the obscurations of the mind. As yoga practitioners, the battle between darkness and light takes place each time we step on the mat, between grasping and letting go, pride and humility, illusion and truth. As we reckon with deep questions of integrity, lineage, and love, we are being asked to live our practice, not merely perform it. To keep seeking clarity, not comfort; truth, not pretense. Across India, the mythical tales of Diwali shimmer in countless forms—Rāma returning to Ayodhyā, Kṛṣṇa defeating Naraka, Lakṣmī emerging from the cosmic ocean, or the illumination of Mahāvīra’s liberation. Each story, though different in geography and tone, shares a single pulse: the triumph of dharma over adharma, light over darkness, clarity over confusion. Inner light cannot be borrowed or bought. It must be kindled within through study, sincerity, and the courage to face our own darkness. When we walk together in that light, the whole world shines a little brighter. ✨Happy Diwali ✨ #happydiwali #diwali Photo @yogaphotographyart

So often, we come to meditation hoping to quiet the mind, only to discover how impossibly noisy it really is. I remember being told once, “Just close your eyes and make the mind still,” and feeling almost defeated before I began. But the truth is, meditation isn’t about forcing silence, it’s about learning to be with what is. For years, my practice has been less about escaping thought and more about befriending it. Each sit is an invitation to notice, to breathe, to witness the rising and falling waves of the mind without getting swept away. And in that simple act of staying, even for a breath, something begins to shift. The heart softens. Awareness expands. Stillness emerges not from control, but from surrender. Yoga teaches us through movement; meditation teaches us through stillness. Together they form the two wings of the same path. Asana strengthens and purifies the body, while meditation refines and clarifies the mind. One prepares the ground, the other reveals what’s already there< the quiet turning toward truth. The Buddha said, “One who sees impermanence sees the Dhamma.” To see that everything changes is not a cause for sorrow, but an opening to wisdom. When we stop clinging to what fades, we finally taste the peace that doesn’t. This week on the Yoga Inspiration Podcast, we explore the meeting place of movement and stillness, of yoga and meditation, and how the truth of impermanence can become the doorway to freedom. ???? Sometimes you have to move back to move forward. Galavasana is just like that. If you try to lift the leg and the body straight up, you’ll feel stuck and heavy. Instead, if you let the leg travel back, engage the arms, and then lift the leg, the whole movement will feel more accessible and connected. We spent the last two days building up to this very challenging arm balance. Did you join? If not next week, we’ll be working on the skills of jumping back and jumping through. Daṇḍāsana the Staff Pose is one of the simplest and most powerful postures in yoga. On the surface it looks like just sitting with the legs straight. But in truth it is the foundation of all seated poses. The word Daṇḍa means staff or rod a symbol of inner alignment and integrity. When you sit upright in Daṇḍāsana your spine becomes that sacred staff. The body forms a perfect axis between earth and sky grounded through the legs and lifted through the crown of the head. Every detail matters. The thighs press down the kneecaps lift the chest opens and the breath moves freely. The effort is quiet but deep. In this stillness you learn to feel your center and build the awareness that supports every other Asana. Daṇḍāsana teaches us how to sit with dignity how to embody steadiness without stiffness and how to balance effort with ease. The longer you stay here the more you sense the staff of energy rising within you holding you upright from the inside out. Come back to this seat often. Let it remind you of what yoga truly asks for presence discipline and devotion to the practice of balance in body mind and heart. Practice with us on @omstarsofficial and explore how Daṇḍāsana can transform the way you sit stand and move on your mat.???? #Daṇḍāsana #StaffPose #AshtangaYoga #YogaAlignment #YogaPhilosophy #YogaPractice #Omstars #KinoMacGregor #Ashtanga #YogaJourney #DailyPractice #YogaLife #YogaCommunity

When the world feels noisy and confusing, yoga teaches us to turn inward, not as withdrawal, but as reconnection. If our vision is clouded and our thoughts are swept away by the intensity of emotion, our actions lose alignment with truth. The inner work of yoga begins with remembering that clarity is not imposed; it is revealed through stillness. There have been many moments in my own life where I’ve lost that clarity. Most often, it happens when I feel justified in my judgment or deeply attached to a particular outcome. It’s hard to let go of what we care about. It’s even harder to admit that our perspective might be distorted when our hearts are stirred and our emotions raw. Yet again and again, practice calls me back to the breath to soften and listen beneath the noise. Pratyāhāra, the fifth limb of yoga, offers a sacred turning point. The Sanskrit root prati means “toward” or “against,” and āhāra means “to take in” or “to draw.” Together, pratyāhāra means “to draw the senses inward,” to redirect attention from the outer turbulence toward the steady witness within. In Yoga Sūtra II.54, Patañjali describes it as the moment when the senses “follow the nature of the mind itself,” no longer compelled by external objects but resting in their source. This teaching is not a test of perfection, but a gentle invitation to reorient, to return, to remember what silence feels like inside. Yoga, in this sense, is a quiet rebellion. It resists the performative noise of the world and turns toward discernment, toward speech born of sincerity and truth. To have a practice is to pivot the compass of belonging from the crowd to the Self. Practice gives form to silence. It reminds us that meaning is not broadcast; it is cultivated, tended, and lived. True connection begins where performance ends, in the quiet honesty of the heart. Turning inward is not an escape, but the foundation from which compassionate and wise action can arise. From that still center, the outer world begins to feel less intimidating and overwhelming, not because it has quieted, but because we have. Which option is for you? Pinchamayurasana is a challenging post that took me over two years and a whole lifetime to work on. Finding different access points can help make it more approachable. Try a lightning bolt lift up, an l-shape lift, a straddle press, a straight leg press, a puppy tuck, or a block support. None of these are easy! Which one is correct? The one that works best for you. ????
