Apparently we had the coldest night in Britain in 10 years yesterday. My hands are red and sore after each walk out, and gloves don’t help. I remembered that feeling of complete tiredness and heavy drowsiness when you come inside from the cold air. In its own surreal way, this weather has made me (and I’m sure many other in the uk) feel weirdly alive.

Weekend traditions — do you have some? A classic breakfast, an activity, a song you dance to? For me, it’s all about syrniki. In essence, they are slightly sweet, cheesy pancakes (or fritters) originating in Slavic countries. I won’t be me if I didn’t try to revamp the classic version every time, depending on seasonality. It’s a wonderful breakfast treat: nutritious and healthy, but can be easily made as decadent as you want them to be ? Since many people are asking about them every time I mention these , I thought I’d post my favourite recipe here. Swipe to the right to see how easy it is to make them ?

I can’t even start to list all the amazing things that @shiba.cake brought into my life. New insights, discoveries, activities, tons of love and immeasurable positivity ? She also draws some pretty amazing people. A few weeks back, Michelle of @chattycatscare reached out to me asking to be a guest on her podcast, where we chatted about pets & mental health, creativity and personal projects, importance of giving back and our communal love for good food ✨ The Catmaste Chronicles podcast is available on all major platforms, with link to Apple podcasts in my bio ?

Want to write something positive and meaningful (for the last few days), but all I feel like doing is whine ? Grey weather and scarce daylight make me feel lethargic. Uncertainly makes me uneasy. Lack of travel is draining. If you feel down as well, I just want to remind you — it’s ok. Whatever the reason — big or a trifle — it is legit, and it’s enough for you to give yourself some extra love and care. Just remember that this will pass . And things will get better, and then they’ll get great. But for now, chill and whine, if that’s what you need ? whine in comments below, if you will, there’s no one to judge ✊?

10 days into 2021. The year when possibly everyone dropped their high expectations and only hopes for the return of simple pleasures.
I faltered between writing down plans for this year or just dropping it altogether and going with the flow, since any kind of planning is almost impossible, especially in the uk ??‍♀️ Instead, I looked at a bigger picture. I’m talking life-scale. And have pinned down list of dreams, wishes, things big and small that were swirling in my head forever, but were blocked my constantly rationalizing mind, saying that it’s too unrealistic to even dream of. Like writing a book one day. Owning a restaurant. Being involved in a serious ocean conservation work. They are truly big ambitions for me, scary even to simply acknowledge. But somehow, seen them on the page in front of me makes them seem more real and possible. By looking at fears close enough (and big dreams can be frightening!), we can start befriending them, little by little, eventually turning them into our alies in reaching heights that one day might have seem impossible to reach.

Always thought January is the worst time to challenge yourself — it’s grey, cold and Christmas-magic-less, so why would you want to put an extra pressure on yourself?! This year, If you’re a lucky UK resident though, you also get a bonus — 2 months of lockdown vol.3, so if you haven’t developed at least a mild depression, it’s time for it now. In that light — I proclaim January 2021 the month of self-care. For some it means staying in, meditating and dropping alcohol. For others — pumping mixology skills with home-made Manhattans and Margaritas, eating obscene amount of sugar, and binge-watching movies. Whichever team you’re on, you’re doing good ?

You know what’s great in 2021? The people that got you through 2020 ? To the hubby that tolerated my meltdowns and didn’t move out ?‍❤️‍?, the dog that’s a handful at times, but who gave countless reasons to smile and laugh ?, friends who organized Zoom quizzes, drinking parties, cookouts, girls movie nights and anything else (some actually offline!) ????, lovely people in the government that gave us a chance to have at least a glimpse of life and travel in summer ? If there’s one wish I have for 2021 it is for it to be fear-free. So hugging people is no longer deemed dangerous, and moving around does not cause anxiety attack with all the rumours and bureaucracy attached to it. Love, chill and joy, from our family to yours ?
