THE UGLY TRUTH OF BEAUTY FILTERS: Have you ever used one of these filters in secret? I wouldn’t blame you (I certainly have!) - after all, they’re super cheap, easy to use, and can transform the ugliest of photos into pure Hollywood glamour lol. But what are they doing to our self-esteem? At least when I was a teenager the worst I could do was compare my face to hot celebs in magazines. But these apps are forcing young ppl today to also deal with comparing their faces to the hottest versions of *themselves*. I can’t imagine how hard that must be… like, I’ve been super lucky and i’m *still* struggling not to hate my natural face when I see it side-by-side with the tweaked version like this. And it’s even harder to resist the temptation when I know so many others are using them on their photos too - it’s like there’s this silent, invisible competitive force pressuring us to use them because we know so many of our peers are. And social media directly rewards us for it with more likes and followers. So what’s driving this? And is there anything we can do about it?
