I’m not really sure how to start this. It’s been days and days, and I’m still struggling to find the words…. Last week I said goodbye to my best friend. Going through countless images of Roger, I’ve felt a panic to get this right. But of course, there will never be ten perfect photos to capture so many years of joy, or the right words to express the magnitude of what he’s meant and continues to mean to me. This is hard. The hardest thing ever and I’m truly shattered. We have been through SO many things together, so many major life transitions… growing up, really. I always had him to hug when I most needed it. And how lucky am I? I had him for 17 years- 17! What a gift and a privilege. Such a big, loving heart and personality in such a little package. The happiest and funniest bean. He truly enchanted everyone he met…….. Muscle memory is a trip. I wake up every morning expecting to hear a little beagle grumble, or to see him around the kitchen corner looking for (so many) treats. I reach for his food bowl at dinner, and I still make sure to hop over his bed so I don’t accidentally step on his tail ????????. He was always so patient with me, and man, I miss him. There are truly no right words for any of this, but his lifelong vet said it way more eloquently than I am: “If love could have kept him alive, he would have lived forever”. And she’s right. He was SO loved. So so loved. And though there is a colossal void left in my heart , I am so very fortunate to have countless beautiful memories of him. Three cheers for Roger. The most beloved, joyful, irreplaceable and unforgettable little creature I have ever known. Happy trails, my little Snoopy boy ✨
