Three things:

1️⃣ Second jab has felled me. Will be making my way gingerly between this tea station and a place to recline throughout the day. Had been told that the second one might take a toll, hence having it on a Friday, but hadn’t quite expected my muscles to take to the ache with such gusto.

2️⃣ I am still mad for designated areas in the house. Perhaps this comes from watching period dramas, where stations for everything exist and houses seem so orderly. The rest of mine is still a state but gradually little areas are shaping up.

3️⃣ Given that tea and Netflix are going to be the big features of my day, I wondered if you have any recommendations for great non-caffeinated teas and shows that will hold me captive (have watched sex education, the end of the f****** world, midnight diner, call my agent, good girls, and the bold type over the past year and loved them all).

My routine after school from the age of 13 was fixed as such: lock myself in my room, don my sister’s clothes, grab mum’s make-up (and increasingly over the years some of my own stash), and play.

I put on puffs of cloudy blue, huge black wings that hit my hair line, rolled mascara onto my lids for a broken mass of spidery lines, red lips, pink lips, flesh-toned lips, black lips. My canvas didn’t end at my face - hair mascara was a thing, so I’d coat them too, extending the play as long and as far as I could.

Then I’d go down to dinner like that, emerging as a different character daily. So used to my ever-changing appearance was my family that nobody commented on the fact that the teenager at the table was head-to-toe in sequins, with a face coated in glitter.

I have less time now, and my make-up a little more sober in general BUT a few times a week, I grab something and play with it on my face right before bedtime. It’s so fun, and because I know I’m going to wash it off shortly after, I feel free from any restraints.

This is last night. Fingers dipped in @danessa_myricks ColorFix, pressed onto lids. No plan, no symmetry, no reasoning. But I learned and found joy and had a holiday from my adult load as I always do when I let myself lose on make-up.

If you are scared of new techniques or colours or of getting it wrong, maybe try taking your make-up for a whirl before bed. You might not end up with one pedestrian crossing eye and one tippex-resembling lid - but I’ll bet you’ll push your boundaries, enjoy yourself, find your face the delightful place of possibility it is.

5 products I’ve emptied 5 times or more, inspired by a video I saw on @rosegallagher feed based on an idea by @salihughes.

Thought that it was precisely the sort of post I find very useful, so here are mine, with a focus on skin (very happy to add more categories over the coming weeks, should you want me to):

1️⃣ @garnieruk No Streaks Bronzer Self-Tanning Dry Mist. A clear mist that has never served up anything but a perfectly even and believable tan. Have used for 6+ years, so suspect I’ve made it through at least 10 of these.

2️⃣ @lauramercier Secret Camouflage. The best concealer under the sun. Two shades in the one pan so it’s always bang on. Looks like skin when applied. Can cover pretty much anything. Have used for over 10 years, feel nervous if I don’t have it on my person, such is my devotion.

3️⃣ @clinisoothe, which @pamelanicolemarshall @mortarandmilk introduced me to, is a lifesaving fluid for skin that is distressed for whatever reason. I use twice daily after cleansing, and as a treatment if anything is really awry.

4️⃣ @thisworks Evening Detox Cleansing Water. Takes off make-up, doesn’t aggravate my skin, housed in a perfect tube that doesn’t leak and which isn’t heavy (ideal for travel, if that ever becomes a thing again).*

5️⃣ @exuvianceuk Hydrafirm moisturiser. Another Pam discovery that gives me the skin bounce and juice lots of you message to ask about. Doesn’t clog pores, ever.

* I’ve worked with This Works several times over the past few years, but this post isn’t part of my work with them.

A photo in which I’m wearing shoes which represent two of my central footwear tenets:

1️⃣ They must be comfortable. If I could choose a single shoe rule for life, this one would prevail. Blisters and swellings and soreness of foot puts the kibosh on all fun and I decided in my 20s that I would never again knowingly partake.

2️⃣ They must last for years. I was this sort of consumer of fashion long before it became a thing because it just made sense - what on earth is the point in buying anything unless it becomes the fabric you live in, absorbing your stories, becoming your ally. There is no other way for me.

(Optional third tenet: they should look nice. I am unwilling to put my might behind this rule because I have historically really made errors of judgement in this department, so I’ll stick to one and two and pick ones I think are visually pleasing but which my friends will doubtless tell me make my feet like like boats/jambons/cat paws.)

Thanks @getthegloss for asking me to name my current favourite lipstick.

I would say something about it being like picking a favourite child but actually that would be utter tripe because I think we all know when a lipstick is the one (at the time, if not for life), it it absolutely the one without equivocation.

Reposting a picture of me wearing it from 2020, when @maxfactor asked me to create an easy make-up look in collaboration with them.

Then, as now, I never highlight things I don’t really love (as is evidenced by my still being mad for this lipstick 15 months on), paid or no.

Do go and check out the article - am in very good company and I now want all the other lipsticks named to have little flings with them.
