Anish Kapoor: Painting is open ~ book tickets now ????

With his vivid new exhibition, Anish Kapoor invites us to consider vital questions relevant to everybody: What is it to be a living body in this world? And what is it to bring something into being? ⠀
⠀
Anish Kapoor moved to London in the 1970s to study art at Hornsey College of Art and @chelseaual following his childhood in a Jewish Hindu family in Mumbai, India. Kapoor forms an important part of Modern Art Oxford’s exhibition history - he featured in ‘Myth & Reality: Aspects of Modern Indian Art,’ nearly 40 years ago where he exhibited the distinctive colour palette of pigments - crimson red, bright yellow, deep blue, stark black and white - still in use today. ⠀

“To stay physically close to the uncanny presence of Kapoor’s new work, to willingly place ourselves at risk of the emotional discomfort of threat, is to be rewarded by fascinating insights that arise regarding our shared vulnerabilities and the generative, uncontainable nature of our living bodies.” - Emma Ridgway, Chief Curator, Head of Exhibitions and Learning⠀

“Red, of course, is the colour of the interior of our bodies. In a way it's inside out, red.” - Anish Kapoor

Book now for Anish Kapoor: Painting, opening this Saturday 2 October ???? Discover Kapoor pushing the boundaries between sculpture and painting to explore our perception and experience of the body. What is an archive and how do we archive our everyday lives?

Over the past five weeks our #ActivatingOurArchives group have been thinking about the act of archiving, both as part of life and as an art form. Across workshops at @fusionartsox and using a shared digital archive, they are all responding in different and exciting ways. Some have been exploring personal archives of family photos, and others have been using collage and reframing to tell stories with found images and objects. Tomorrow is their final workshop at @fusionartsox, where they'll be sharing their work to the public from 4pm. Drop by to find out more about their fascinating projects ???? Swipe to see some of the work that is emerging ????

???? @agirlcalledyellow is unpacking an archive of photographs left in a trunk by a distant relative, using archiving to 'weave her-story, a woman who is known to have defied all societal expectations in her time, a memoir of her being'.
.
???? @amandadenny_photography’s mermaid on a rock is a collage made using found book dust jackets, one cover used to reframe another, playing on the idea of an old fashioned screen for modesty.
.
???? @kjburrellphoto has been thinking about whether there is such a thing as a 'good image' and a 'bad image' in an archive.
