Lately, I’ve been spending a lot of time offline bonding with Luc: I wanted to learn more about him as an individual, outside of the shadow of being Bodhi’s little brother. Luc is not a typical well-behaved dog. The first 6 months of his life engrained in him that life is scary, food is scarce and the world is out to hurt him. Somehow, we were both born in Korea and met each other on the other side of the world, in New York just at the right time. With the alignment of many serendipitous moments, we became family. His reactivity doesn’t give us many opportunities to socialize with other dogs but last week, he made his first dog friend outside of Bodhi and my world opened again. My sweet Luc, who reserved his tenderness only for me decided that he would trust again. The love we shared in silence healed something in him and in turn, he showed me resilience, grace and willingness to accept the good things the universe has to offer. Luc celebrated his 6th birthday last week with his special friend, walks to his heart’s content and endless treats and love. I’m excited for the new adventures and stories we will write together. I’ve been walking around New York and Brooklyn a lot lately, and I keep passing places where Bodhi and I shared core memories. A photoshoot in Prospect Park. An event we went to in Chelsea. That joywalk through Dumbo. And of course, the quiet moments at home getting lost in creative flow, time standing still as I immortalized him through my lens.
