On February 25, 2018 a man named Sandy Kulkin came to speak at my church. At the end of the message, he stopped to look at me and said that I was soon going to be coming to a split in the road of my life. Only one route would take me where I needed to be, but it would be full of trials and the temptation to quit would be immeasurable. He told me that I have a God given gift of creating order out of the world’s chaos, and, no matter what, I could not give up. At the time, I had no idea what he was referring to. I was a senior in art school, studying music business and entertainment entrepreneurship with big dreams of becoming the next Simon Cowell. The amount of work that I was expected to do was certainly relaxed, and I stayed at the top of my class the whole way through. Nevertheless, when I got home from church that day, I immediately grabbed my notebook and wrote down exactly what Sandy told me, knowing that it was important. I had already decided that I was going to go to law school, hoping that it would help in my future career in entertainment, but what could be so hard about that? As it turns out, just about everything. It became clear to me very early on in my first year that I was in the midst of exactly what Sandy Kulkin had prophesied. For the first three months I woke up every morning with the desire to quit, feeling overwhelmed with work piling at a nearly unachievable level. Regardless of how I felt, every night I would look at what I wrote in my notebook on February 25 and knew that I could not give up. Now, after three years of trials, growth, diligence, perseverance, and pure hard work, I have finished law school and will graduate on Saturday, May 8th. Apart from the grace of God, being faithful to finish every good work that He has begun, this would not have been possible. Although it was, to put it lightly, a challenge, law school has been the best decision of my life thus far and I’m beyond grateful. While I don’t know exactly where this path will lead, all that I want now is to do what I can to create order out of the world’s chaos.
