Do the right thing!! Great movie and a great idea to follow in your career of choosing. For us it’s dentistry and for us, it has become an acronym we follow, DTRT. This patient came to see us with all kinds of issues since she had her veneers done about a 1.5 years back. From gum inflammation to tender and painful teeth. On evaluation we were able to see the issues that she was uncomfortable to live with and unsightly to look at. Gums around porcelain react really well but when they don’t that is a clear sign of issues that were either never resolved, never addressed or possibly just poorly done. Here are a few no-no’s when doing porcelain veneers. 1-don’t make them bulky. 2- don’t prepare the tooth too far into the gum line, to invade a very sacred zone. 3-don’t prepare for veneers if the gums are unhealthy 4-don’t over prepare the teeth for veneers 5-don’t under-prepare teeth for porcelain veneers. 6-don’t prepare for veneers if there is an aggressive grinding and clenching component. These are just a few concerns that come to mind. There is a whole set of concerns when it comes to bonding the porcelain veneers that are important to follow and to manage properly. We always remind ourselves esthetics is important but not at the cost of function and longevity. We can always reverse and bring back the health and beauty that the patient deserves and paid for to see, but why not do it correctly in the first place to avoid unnecessary redos. So DTRT and don’t look back.
