Interview by “D-Man,” CTF Inmate Correspondent???? Everything Has a Season. From barefoot workouts in the rain… to asking God for more in a locker room before his final UFC walk. This week’s Sundays with Cain – Episode 31 isn’t about wins or losses. It’s about what happens when the fight stops giving answers—and the search turns inward. Cain opens up about fatherhood, injury, spiritual awakening, and the moment he realized there was more beyond the cage. Then he takes us to Mexico… Lucha Libre… a mask called El Toro… and a childhood dream fulfilled in front of his family. This is Cain like you’ve never heard him before. Honest. Reflective. Human. ???? Read the full story Sundays with Cain-Episode 31 at: www.ROLLNRUMBLE.COM ???? ???? SUNDAYS WITH CAIN – EPISODE 30 HALL OF FAME (2 Down, 1 To Go)
Most people look back on life, wondering what could’ve been. Cain Velasquez doesn’t. In this week’s episode, Cain reflects on growth, gratitude, and the moments that shape a man long after the cage lights fade. From welcoming his son into the world… to being inducted into not one, but two Hall of Fames—his high school and Arizona State University—Cain opens up about a chapter filled with pride, humility, and perspective. He talks about:
???? Becoming a father (and the unforgettable “It’s a Boy” moment)
???? Hall of Fame honors he never chased—but deeply appreciates
???? Traveling to Senegal to witness ancient wrestling traditions on the beaches of Dakar
???? Seeing the future of fighting through culture, ceremony, and passion
???? Reflecting on mistakes and successes with equal ownership “No resolutions—just affirmations. Be present. Give back.” This isn’t about belts or wins.
It’s about character, legacy, and the lessons that last. ???? Read the full story now at www.rollnrumble.com

To MMA Media & Combat Sports Writers, One of the most powerful and least-covered stories in MMA is unfolding right now. Each week, Cain Velasquez speaks candidly from Soledad State Prison in an exclusive long-form series titled Sundays with Cain, published on www.rollnrumble.com. These are not soundbites or recycled headlines—this is Cain, unfiltered and reflective, telling his full story for the first time. He opens up about his childhood, wrestling through high school and college, becoming UFC heavyweight champion, the highs and lows of holding the belt, personal loss, accountability, and healing—including a previously undisclosed spinal fusion surgery and a public apology for mistakes made along the way. More importantly, he shares what comes after the cage: growth, responsibility, and the work of becoming a better man. This is a human story. A fighter’s story. A story happening in real time. If you cover MMA, combat sports, or athlete journeys, this is a series you should not miss. ???? Read the latest installment of Sundays with Cain at

???? Sundays with Cain – “It’s A Boy” A ROLL & RUMBLE Fight Co. Exclusive Christmas at CTF looks a lot different than the outside world… but heart is heart, wherever you are. ❤️ This week, I spent Christmas with Cain. Instead of a feast, we hit the gym—medicine balls, rowers, sweat pouring—before heading back to face the mountain of food everyone wanted to bless him with: rice bowls, tamales, and even the state chow hall meal (which, surprisingly, “wasn’t so bad”). Cain smiled, crushed his pie and chocolate milk, and laughed, “That’s a good reason for fasting.” But the real weight of this episode isn’t the workout or the food. Cain opens up about one of the hardest chapters of his life: ???? Recovering from spinal fusion surgery ???? Watching his mother’s health decline ????‍???? Seeing his father transform through love and caregiving ???? Finding forgiveness for old wounds It’s raw. It’s emotional. And it’s the kind of story that reminds you what really matters. Then the tone shifts… ✨ Hope. Joy. New life. Cain shares the story of asking Michelle for “one shot” at another child—turning it into a full-on meditation and ceremony. It worked. She got pregnant. And at a backyard gender reveal, Cain spotted the banner from far away and yelled it before anyone else could even read it: “IT’S A BOY!” ???????? We also hear about his goodwill trip to Korea and China, wearing an Emperor’s robe, training with Korean Zombie, and rushing home because his son was on the way. And because it’s Cain… the episode ends with a wild moment that leaves him with a head gash, toilet paper as a bandage, and a trip to medical. ???? From sweat… to tears… to laughter… to new life. This one has it all. ???? Read the full story now (Episode 29) at www.rollnrumble.com (Link in bio) This isn’t just a fight story. It’s a human story. ❤️

???? Sundays with Cain – Episode 25
 - A ROLL & RUMBLE Fight Co. Exclusive Thanksgiving Edition
Thanksgiving in prison hits different. It’s the one day every man here feels the distance from home the most. I tried warning Cain that the holiday meal would be… rough. He wouldn’t hear it. He insisted, “This year’s gonna be different.” And somehow—he was right.
The stuffing wasn’t soggy bread, the mashed potatoes were legit, and Cain ate three helpings. We sat in the day room afterward, talking turkey, family, traditions, and gratitude as he finished the pumpkin pie. “This is my favorite holiday,” Cain said. “Family cooking together as a team.”
He told me how he prepares a turkey from scratch—boiling the heart, liver, neck, chopping everything up for the stuffing and gravy. “And you have to eat Thanksgiving right… one bite with a little of everything.” Then the conversation shifted.
Cain wanted to give thanks to the men who shaped him: ???? Coach Shawn Rustad – the man who pushed him to his breaking point and taught him he had no limits.
???? Coach Thom Ortiz – once rough around the edges, now a changed man who taught Cain to listen to what people say, not how they say it.
???? Coach Javier Mendez – father figure, mentor, and “the best teacher on the planet,” whose respect and humility left a lifelong mark. Cain shared stories—some heartfelt, some hilarious—and opened up about how each man helped shape who he is, not just as a fighter… but as a person. “Shawn taught me to go within myself. Thom taught me to take my ego out of communication. Javier taught me to respect everyone. Those you love, and even those you don’t.” This is what Thanksgiving looked like this year:
A simple meal. A plastic chair in a day room. A heavy heart.
And Cain Velasquez, reflecting on the people who gave him the tools to survive both inside the cage and inside these walls. ???? Read the full Thanksgiving episode now at ROLLNRUMBLE.COM

???? Sundays with Cain – Episode 24
-A ROLL & RUMBLE Fight Co. Exclusive This week’s episode hits differently. It’s raw. Personal. Human. For months, Cain wasn’t sure if he should write back the people who send him letters from around the country. This week, he finally sat down—night after night—and wrote back every single one. We spent hours in the day room going through stacks of mail. I filled envelopes, he wrote heartfelt replies. Gerald in Morgan Hill… Alysa in San Jose… Roberto in Garland… Hannah in Tucson… Your letters mean the world to him. And yes—he mailed them. But that’s just the beginning. Episode 24 ties together the missing pieces between the end of Cain’s college years and the start of his fighting career—how he trained at Arizona Combat Sports with Bader, Moraga, Larkin, CB, and Simpson… how he took a leap of faith and packed his entire life into a Mercedes 300E… how he slept in a Crown Vic and then in a deflating SpongeBob air mattress while grinding his way into AKA. You’ll also hear:
???? How Javier Mendez reacted the moment he first saw him spar
???? The REAL degree Cain earned (we corrected it ????)
???? The “blue cheese incident” that left Michelle traumatized for life
???? Why Islam Makhachev said Cain is the FIRST guy he’d pick for a street fight
???? The deep respect between Cain, Islam, Khabib, Javier, and the Dagestan crew
???? And the memory of his grandmother’s caramelized candy-pumpkin made with cloves ❤️ This episode is full of laughs, grit, nostalgia, and the kind of heart that reminds you why Cain Velasquez is loved worldwide. If you’ve ever chased a dream when no one believed in you…
If you’ve ever slept in your car betting on yourself…
If you’ve ever fought through obstacles with nothing but heart… This one’s for you. ???? Read the full Episode 24 now at ROLLNRUMBLE.COM

???? Sundays with Cain – Episode 23
A ROLL & RUMBLE Fight Co. Exclusive From a little boy in Yuma dreaming of becoming a Sun Devil… to a young man fighting through academic struggles, nonstop summer school, ADHD, trauma, and sheer exhaustion—Cain Velasquez refused to quit. ???? This week, we follow him into his junior year at ASU, where things finally begin to click. His grades improve, he earns living-expense scholarship money, and he builds lifelong friendships with teammates like John Moraga, Brian Stith, Jeremy Mendoza, and Suzuki. Those years weren’t glamorous—old wrestling rooms, flooded mats, practicing in high schools and churches—but they forged him. Cain dove deep into Women’s Studies, learning empathy, trauma awareness, and earning his bachelor’s degree. He made the Maroon & Gold academic list and trained year-round to stay sharp. We also get:
???? Brutal battles with college nemesis Cole Konrad
???? Pac-10 honors for Cain and Coach Tom
???? The semifinal heartbreak that lit the fire for his MMA career
???? And one of the greatest bar stories EVER involving three friends, too many drinks, and… a piss sandwich (yes, you read that right) Cain also shares one of his most cherished memories—training at the Olympic Training Center, holding his own with the nation’s best, and realizing he belonged on the world stage. And then: graduation. A small winter ceremony, a proud moment with his parents, and the realization that being a Sun Devil was a dream fulfilled… but not the end.
“I felt like I had so much more to give,” Cain says. “There was something in me that wasn’t fully explored yet.” Before we wrapped, Cain added one message:
???? “I want Tom to become famous with his picture. He’s a great coach and a great friend.” That’s the power of these stories—heart, humor, pain, triumph. If today’s episode made you smile, share it with a friend. ❤️ SUPPORT “SUNDAYS WITH CAIN”
