The first time I travelled to Karamoja was during a severe drought. I was documenting the stories of people responding to the ongoing water crisis and was amazed by the resilience and adaptability displayed by the Karamajong people. It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Since then, Karamoja has held a special place in my heart. Now, I am extending you an invitation to join me in Karamoja and to experience its magic for yourself. Oops, it seems I vanished from here for almost two years. During this time, I poured my energy into developing the organisation I founded to support children in Karamoja—a place that my camera brought me to some good years ago. It is where decided to dwell and take my camera off the shoulder for a while to focus on a journey that isn't often documented or photographed, but one that is constantly transforming the lives of many children in need. After all, the most profound journey in life isn't the one we showcase to the world—it's the one that quietly unfolds within us when nobody is watching. I never met a mother in the village who asked me for innovative technology or a pile of volunteers to show and renovate her home. But I met hundreds of mothers praying to help their children go to school and earn a better future. Since the beginning of the year, together with your generous help, we have helped 230 children return or start school for the first time in their lives. We have made lots of happy mothers and created a real opportunity for children born into cruel poverty, violence, displacement, discrimination, or other unjust reasons to pave a better future for themselves, their families, and their entire community.
