There once was a polite necklace. Three strands of pearls with pink over tones, two interchangeable clasps, one with diamonds, one with rubies, 50’s style, totally dated. My friend who had inherited it asked me “Is there any thing you can do to jazz it up?” So I added ruby beads and two large amethysts to compliment the lovely pink pearls. Then I added six medieval inspired crosses all in 20K rose gold and paved them all with the diamonds on one side and the rubies on the other. To make it bold, chic and sexy I added two leather sections from which I hanged things and in the back the extra pearls are also hanging as an additional whimsical detail. And of course you can wear it in two different lengths. I’m happy to report that I’ve seen her wearing it many times. We would always go to stay with him for Easter and we adored him. He was always kind and fun to be around as he had this talent to make everything exciting and magic and made us laugh a lot! He always told us marvelous stories and had an encyclopedic knowledge of history, art and literature ! Today @royaltyandprotocol posted a very interesting story written by @happynonstop1999 about King Nicola of Montenegro, my great great grandfather. I had posted a story about him a few years ago so for those of you who enjoyed it I am reposting it because the two stories complement each other. My great great grandparents King Nicola and Queen Milena of Montenegro, a tiny adorable kingdom that at the end of the 19th century had just one road that went from the capital to the sea. They had twelve children and through brilliant dynastic alliances they managed to bring their country from the Middle Ages to modern times. Their daughter Elena became queen of Italy, their daughter Zorca became princess of Serbia and would’ve been queen of Yougoslavia had she not died in childbirth. Two of their other daughters became grand duchesses of Russia and introduced Rasputin to the Empress. King Nicola had studied in Paris, he was very cultured and everyone at his court spoke French. He had a very modern vision of world politics and had proposed to the USA that they build a military naval base in the straight of Cattaro. Had that idea been accepted maybe the history of the Balkans would’ve been very different! He always had his pistol tucked in his sash and had taught my grandfather King Umberto II how to use it!
