After much consideration, and with an incredible opportunity brewing that will prepare me to help the growth our beautiful game, I have made the difficult decision to end my career, and retire from Futsal. Exactly 6 years ago today, I put on the England shirt and sang the national anthem for the first time. I can’t put into words what playing for England has meant to me. I have been extremely blessed to find a way to give back to the country that gave so much to me. Everything I am and have achieved in life alongside my beautiful wife and three amazing kids. I remember when the gaffer asked me to captain England. I never imagined to be captain, not even in my dreams, but it happened and was my greatest accomplishment. I didn’t doubt for a second to accept the challenge. I left in tears and I bent my knees to thank God for a such honour. I know how I suffered and what I fought to be both eligible and accepted. I faced adversities both before, and during the journey. As I said to my teammates in my first speech as captain, “No one feels this badge more than I do, you may feel the same as I do, not more”. I wanted to express my deep gratitude and commitment. For many years I’ve had the privilege of leading a fantastic group, both as players and individuals. The amount of sacrifice the squad & staff gave over the last 6 years was unbelievable, renouncing our family time for training, trips, camps etc. all to represent our country. It’s an honour that money can’t buy. 52 Caps and 29 goals ⚽️. I wish I could’ve joined the team 10 years younger than I did, but I believe everything happens at right time. I would like to thank everyone that helped and supported me along the way, it wasn’t easy for many reasons, but was more than worthwhile. I hope our legacy will help the future generations to advance further than we had the chance to. Thank you @england for a grand blessing. Not the @uefafutsal Champions League campaign we dreamed about, but so much to take from it. These boys couldn’t make me more proud, they give it all! Before everything, what a bunch of good people! We enjoyed every minute together and the team spirit is amazing ????. I’m convinced we have a decent TEAM for years ahead and we will bounce back stronger. Personally, it was a tough one to take as I got injured in our first training session in Germany, after two months of commitment and sacrifice not being able to help my teammates on court was harsh, but I put my personal situation on side to support the team as much as I could from the bench. I believe everything happens for a reason and I will always trust the “process” no matter what. GOD is good! Now, time to enjoy my loved ones and recharge for what will come next. One, Two, Three….
